Other MMO's don't have 50 or so years of directly related content to draw on.
You don't need 50 years of related content to have useful skills, spells, and perks that aren't directly related to combat. Nor do you need that much time to allow players to more freely customize their characters instead of Warrior ONLY using martial weapons or Mage ONLY using magic spells.
If you love the exploration aspect: That is not lost. I think it is even more emphasized, you just have more tools to reach the places instead of always beeing forced to do jumping puzzles.
GW2 is about exploring, you miss so many things with a mount.
From where I am coming from, it was really getting used to do everything without a mount.
Certain people from the GW2 community have been asking for a mount for years, at the end the developers agreed, now, the mounts, not all, are content per se, the more "exotic" mounts like the Griffon and the Skyscale are a real pain to get. Good thing is that you can use a Griffon for free later on from one of the nests placed in certain regions, as long as you stay mounted.
The "annoying" thing I see with mounts, more for other people; when there is some kind of event, it is over before you know it, because people with mounts are way faster.
I think it would be nice to have some kind of mount in the base game, just for the above mentioned reason.
Well, you get that now with the raptor (or raptor trial) at level 10.
The trial does not really count, as it expires after 10 hours, to be clear, I am talking about permanent mounts obviously.
A new player that has purchased PoF will still permanently unlock raptor at lvl 10 on first character.
I said in the base game, you really need to read the full context mate.
My partner and I started GW2 a little after PoF, so we had mounts from the beginning, and we have enjoyed lots and lots of exploration across the game, early zones included. Mounts don't mean you can't or won't enjoy exploring. They just mean you can get where you're going when you want to. That's fine. We don't need to be forced to do everything slowly.
It's more that no one should lock themselves in the limited, trial version instead of buying into the huge upgrade you get with PoF+HoT.
Wouldn't even contemplate coming back without the new mounts.
