Tell that to WoW classic players
This most people are :P
The people screaming when they heard there wasn't a LFD in wrath was insane :)
I guess how much you want the game to hold your hand varies from player to player.
What list are you talking about?

Those are the people that demanded WoW to become the boring snoozefest it is today
Yeah its good game design you have to use most of your time on a Wiki ;D
Sadly, it's one of those games where you NEED to use the wiki and community made tools if you're playing long term. Some people don't like that. It is what it is at this point.
All I can say for new people is just don't let it overwhelm you all at once, take one thing at a time to focus on and use the Story Journal in the Hero Panel as your main guide.
I love how people are bashing the new player experience but never once consider that there are millions of veteran players who started playing this game before the new player experience was even a thing and we all got through it just fine and are still playing today.
There is a simple solution - play the game. You don't learn anything by not doing it. Every game has a learning curve, and if you arent willing to learn then apparently gaming in general just isn't for you.
I have played this game since beta without a single friend, and it is certainly on the most distant opposite side of the spectrum from the games I've played that have steep learning curves. I'd even go as far as to say GW2 might be the easiest of the average difficulty games I've played.
For instance a few days ago there was this player who complained about the lvl 10 story being bugged, as he was unable to hit the drakes inside the water since his skills were all just melee. After a few users on here let him know that he should equip an underwater weapon and fight the enemies inside the water, he complained that he was not told by the game about this, which was, once again, wrong. When a player reaches lvl 8, they get presented with an underwater weapon and helmet as well as the text saying "Underwater Combat" with the questionmark icon near it, which, by pressing it, elaborates the text even further.
Most of the content ingame is being explained to the players one way or another, but more often than not, players close those windows and popup text too fast and delete every mail they get in their mailbox without reading it.
The game could make things more obvious, but truth be told, all of the info needed is being provided to the players.
