I have many lvl 80s and I agree, help when it's appropriate (like handing out food and dyes) or when a newbie asks for help but that's about it. 2-shotting that level 3 mob does more harm than good in showing people how to play.

If they're actually being nuisances and blatantly annoying newer players then I agree that they should stop but, for what it's worth, there are things for level 80's to do even in the starting and leveling zones. Between achievements, collections, map completion, events, world bosses and more, there's plenty of reasons for a level 80 player to go back to earlier zones.
Wolfmor Aug 26, 2022 @ 8:57am
It'll die down. Most of the 80s are just excited to see new people and just want to help but also they released a new event that requires everyone to do 10 events throughout the world so starting maps are going to have higher traffic of 80s

Right now during the 10 year event you get rewards for completing some of the older content.

This is a good part of it.

Yeah I had to keep running from new players and being careful not to kill mobs that they were about to kill. I was careful to just 1 hit each mob if I couldn't escape. I don't want to be a nuisance
Mittens Aug 26, 2022 @ 9:02am
There will always be highlevel players in lowlevel zones, for things like achievements and map/world completion.
Guild Wars 2 is not like many other MMOs where there's no reason to spend time with old content, and that's a good thing I think.

I'm going to copy/paste a post I made on another thread about this topic. There's some fairly important things to know about the game in here, so please consider giving it a read.

I think I understand the confusion here. If you're coming from any other MMO that is currently on the market, you'll have a very twisted view on what you're experiencing in GW2.

How? GW2 is currently the only MMO that I'm aware of that is almost entirely based on horizontal progression. What that means is that, aside for the very short journey from 1-80, pretty much every zone and all forms of content are always relevant to you as a player and you're actively rewarded for playing any of it whenever you desire to. There is no such thing as zones only being used to level or quest in. There is no such thing as one zone outright replacing other zones for stuff like farming efficiency. More importantly, no content is ever removed unlike every other competitor game because of these reasons.

So what does that means at level 80? It means that the entire game is "endgame." You are rewarded for going back and completing sub-80 zones and everyone in those zones benefits from you being there. Simply put, PvE lacks the toxic competitive aspects found in similar games. If you hit an enemy for 1 damage and a higher level player kills that enemy, you get full rewards. The same goes for everything else in GW2.

Now here's the best part. All of these zones have stat caps and normalize players to some degree. So in a level 1-15 zone, level 80s aren't 80. Yes, they have access to all of their skills, which you'll have prior to 80 anyways. Yes, they'll have perfectly optimized builds and gear, so they'll certainly be a bit stronger than a player that is actually at those levels. However, they have nowhere near as much of a power difference as you might think. Certainly not if you've played any other MMO. And the advantages that they have over you are quickly diminished as you get into higher level zones as you start optimizing your own builds, your own gear, your own skill usage, etc.

The vast and overwhelmingly majority of the community is merely playing the game as intended, and most of them are actively trying to help others. Everyone has a perfectly valid reason to be in any zone, and there's no such thing as a max level player being able to come into a low level zone and nuke the map. Sure, some people really are just showing off, and out of those players, some of them just want to show you what you can achieve to encourage you. And of course some people are attempting to grief you, but no matter how hard they try, they'll never be able to truly mess with you like in every other MMO.

The reality is that the starter experience for GW2 can be a bit overwhelming. There's a reason content creators, game journalists, etc. have always pointed out how "different" GW2 is. Your past MMO experiences won't fully transfer over to GW2 just due to how unique the game truly is. And worst of all, there's no other games to compare it to on the current market. I can't even think of older games really attempting to do what GW2 has done, and I've been gaming since the early 90s. Which sucks, because it's really hard trying to get people into a game when you can't say that GW2 is like X or Y game that they might have played before.

With all of that said, I've played every AAA MMO release over the last few decades, and when it comes to GW2, I have never experienced a more friendly and helpful community. Please consider taking a step back and reassessing what you're experiencing in GW2. Do not assume that most or any of the high level players within sub-80 zones are there to hurt you. This is not (insert other game here), this is GW2. Our community is here to help, and we are more than happy to welcome you into the world of Guild Wars 2. :lunar2019piginablanket:

I'm a new player, I felt kinda lost at the beginning because I was not very sure what to do. Then I decided to let myself go, and found that there are plenty of things happening at the same time. The world feels in constant movement, I really like it for now. On the other hand, I don't feel like high level players are annoying. They explained me some things and they encourged people to join them in general chat, which I appreciate.

I have a lot of 80s alts who need to make exploration in lower zones. All zones are important for lvl 80s even starting zones. There are daily jumping puzzles or other daily activities which can be in starting zones.
I agree there are can be some idiots who go on purpose and kills everything but most of the players are not like that. I wish you a better gaming experience and if you need any help you can contact me.

Yeah this is pure gw2 habits. I went in the area to say hello to new players at first and drop some food (I was on an alt), and just before leaving I saw a heart that was almost completed. I went like let's just finish that one before leaving. 20 minutes later I ended up completing the whole map... That ♥♥♥♥ is addictive.

For veterans. You know how it works, do it like in dragonfall for the bridge events. You don't need to kill more than one mob to register. Just kill one mob and move to the next event. You'll get completion for everything.
You don't need to clear the whole pack. Newbies will take care of that, it's not like you can fail these events, they're too low level.
