Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

[RESOLVED] Game Launcher crashing. Game never starts
So I've had this issue even from before this game was on steam. (one of the main reasons why I never played much. I just gave up trying.) But the Launcher crashes every time I try to start the game. I've tried using the "Verify integrity of game files" more times that I care to say. I've uninstalled the game 3 times now since the launch of the steam release. Even restarted my system, And the Game Launcher continues to crash. Some times after I spam Verify integrity of game files 100 times I might get the launcher to start. However that's too far in between.

Has anyone had this issue as well? And is there a fix for it?

Edit I found this on their website:[help.guildwars2.com]
Follow these steps if you are running the game on a Windows operating system:

Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add –repair to the end. (Example: "C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe" -repair)
Click OK.
Now double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. This will begin repairing your game client automatically. The game will then launch when it is complete.

NOTE: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut; if you would like to play the game without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command in the 'Target' line.

I'm having the same issue. I tried the solution but the GW2 repair just crashes after 10-30%

Edit: I managed to get the repair to not crash by remaining in the window the entire time instead of alt-tabbing to something else but even after the repair the game will still not launch through steam

Edit: I think this is all related to me having the non-steam client installed first. 2 of my computers have the same issue but my Steam Deck has no trouble launching it it seems. Unfortunately even after doing several uninstalls and reinstalls I'm still only able to launch the game directly from the GW2 folder

I hear you for sure. I'm not sure what I can do to help you out more. But I did find out (if you've got the steam version installed.) You can run the Repair command inside of steam. And the client should start an archive repair. I'm still encountering the issue of the game not launching like it should. But I did find out you can repair the game in the Launch Options via Steam.

First find the game in your Steam Library, Click: Manage (gear icon) > Properties > General > Launch Options. Add use this command inside the launch options: " -Repair" With the space. Not the quotes. " "

I'm not sure if this will help you any. But I thought it useful non the less. :wsengineer:

I've done a lot with no success...
-Reinstalled the game probably 3-4 times (through steam)
-Deleted Guild Wars 2 from my computer and its folder
-Checked File Integrity
-Tested issue on different computer and same issue
-Ran it on my Steam Deck and it worked
-Ran the Guild Wars 2 Repair from the folder
-Tried adding the "(space)-Repair" to its Properties in Steam

I'm looking into making a ticket but right now looks like tickets are isolated to 3 very specific issues like being unable to run it on Linux

Have you tried to launch the game with your anti-virus turned off? I'm not saying to leave it turned off, rather long enough to see if the game will start. I'm currently in the process of trying that right now myself. :bms_crowbar:

All I have for Anti-Virus is windows defender. I did open a ticket with Steam and here was their answer

You can find their contact information on the following page: https://help.steampowered.com/wizard/HelpWithGameTechnicalIssue/?appid=1284210

Not sure what ArenaNet will do since the game launches from the folder it just wont launch through Steam. I might just give up as this was really just so I could keep track of my playtime in Steam and also open up a second account to double my dailies. I can also launch the game through my Steam Deck so it's not the end of the world
