Guild Wars 2

How to play with your old Guild Wars 2 account on steam.
It's a very simple process. First go to properties on steam. Then copy/paste '-provider Portal' without the quotation marks, into the 'Launch Options' box. This should allow you to use your old account.

Do let me know if this works for others. I'm genuinely curious. It worked for me at least.

It works very well!
Ofc remember you cannot buy anything for GW2 through Steam then!
But for old accounts there is no actual point to make new Steam account since u lose all progress and achievs then! I hope some day in soon future they officially link accounts!

Here some more precise info about this -

Does it then show how long you've played through steam even though you are playing your old account?

Very useful guide.

I did something a little different because I did not want to move my GW2 folder from its original location. Using a directory symbolic link comes in handy for this task as I also use this for the Chrome temp directory to have it go to where I want it my files to be at.

Using administrative privileges using the command prompt, I used this command.

mklink /d <link> <target> is the syntax.

Example which is in my case.

mklink /d "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Guild Wars 2" "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2".

Which the previous mentioned trick you don't even have to move a folder. Insert the command and play.

Correct. Depending on the order when you used the command, the game may say install first, in which it doesn't really install and it is ready to go. In my case I did the command before I ran the game for the first time, in which it worked as if I used the Anet launcher.

are mods taking down threads like this with a steam/arena net work around? I can't find the other threads on this topic.
