Guild Wars 2

You can play with your existing gw2 account
Just right click Guild Wars 2 in your library, go to Properties and add this to the launch options:

-provider Portal

It's well known but it looks like a lot of people still don't know.

Just keep in mind that if you're an old player you can't buy dlcs from steam, you have to go to their website.

Needless to say: for all the existing accounts ***ALL THE DLCS YOU PREVIOUSLY BOUGHT ARE STILL THERE***

If it's with the Addon Manager should work the same way for the regular version. I got Radial Mount working anyway.

Oh my god thank you for this.

But understand, it will just use you existing account to play only. You won't be able to buy anything from steam and get it on your existing account, the bought stuff will be sent to the real new steam account (which you don't have). So be careful and don't use the black lion while doing this.

Oh? This effects the Black Lion store as well and not just purchases specifically on the Steam store?

I'm pretty sure the ingame Black Lion Trading Post can be used once you're logged in, you just have to avoid using the steam store IF you're on an old arenanet account.

Thanks for this! this was by far my biggest concern.. no idea why these games keep doing this while others 100% do not require it.. then they're all excuses as to why claiming its just the way steam works when it does not...
EQ, EQ2, SWToR, PSO2, TERA, STO, BDO, Planetside 2, etc... all of them older games, and not one has any problem using outside older accounts.. Then theres GW2... or WoWs... that for some unknown reason by default force a new account unless worked around... :/

This should be a default option for the game. Not something players needed to figure out themselves.

Hmm ... i haven't downloaded steam version yet, im hessitating as i don't like the idea of having the same game twice in my SSD, but maybe i could dual box that way without other 3rd party aps... hec im confused.

But how's the gw2 "steam" launcher?? can you just type and login with your old account? what if i have 2 step authentication methods like sms or e-mail confirmation? so many questions...

you can move the .dat file from the gw2 folder to the steam one. Close steam and relaunch.

Yeah i understand that but do you get all the same options as the anet launcher? i mean, type user name and password obviously, then SMS or email code in case you have some authentication method in your account? ima read the sticky in this forum, i've been lazy.

You should add the explanation how to get your existing installation into steam:

1. Go to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder and copy the whole folder
2.Go to your steam libary folder (steam/steamapps/common) and paste the folder
3. Go to steam -> Guild Wars 2, press install and chose the libary folder you placed the Guild Wars 2 folder
4. Change Launch parameters with "-provider Portal" and play the game with your old account connected to steam (no shop)
