Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Unable to select a public display name in the launcher, entirely unable to play the game.
Title essentially, I type in my desired name and hit submit which leads to a connection failure with the error code 3003. Then I'm prompted to log in using Steam, which also fails and tells me the chosen name is already taken, and gives me the error code 3061, neither of these error codes exist according to their website. Anyone else having this issue? Am I just not allowed to play this game? I've rebooted my PC twice, restarted Steam three times, relaunched the launcher 10+ times and I've reinstalled twice. Nothing has done ♥♥♥♥.

You do not take your display mane in the launcher. You should log in with your steam credentials. You would need to contact Steam support if this continues.

Then my installation is somehow not the same one everyone else has. When I launch the game it prompts me to pick a public display name and absolutely nothing else.

You do. Normally, you create your account on the website, where you are asked to choose a display name during the process. Through Steam, the launcher automatically creates the account for you with your Steam credentials, but the display name still needs to be created by you. For Steam accounts, this seem to happen in the launcher window.

Source: my own experience.

And you were able to type in your desired name and simply move on? No issues at all?

None. I wish I had an advice... Your image looks just like I remember, except the name, ofc.
Are you sure the name isn't taken?

From my understanding that shouldn't matter as you get the Discord treatment, 4 numbers after a hashtag so any name should do. But I've tried with 6 different combinations of completely random letters and space placements, it makes zero difference. And I simply will not ever believe that those were all taken LOL

I am having the same exact issue, looked online and opened the ports and allowed in firewall like Guild Wars support suggested but nothing seems to be working.

That's wrong, he said he tried out random combinations of letters as well and it doesn't work. Also, each name can probably be given out like 10000 times since each one also gets a 4 digit number.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one, I guess. I just emailed Arenanet's support team on this. Hopefully one of us figures this out.

I did the same, I'm suspecting it's region based? I have a buddy in Orlando who got it to work fine while on the east coast of Canada. I tried both PC and my Steam deck with the same error.. made me think it's the router firewall but I did all the port forwarding suggested In multiple articles with no effect.

Names can't be taken they just add a # with a string of numbers so that's not an issue.
