To all upcoming new steam players
Please do not be discouraged by the people riding mounts - especially the skyscales. it might seem taunting and provocative.. and it is. But you will get there eventually as well.

Skyscales are low key one of the worst things introduced. You'll have more fun not using them

I don't have the skyscale yet, decided to concentrate on other stuff instead. Can you talk about what makes it so bad?
Personally i believe the pros with skyscales is that you can get basically anywhere with one which eliminates a lot of the challenge in getting to places. It also renders the Bunny mount useless. But If you want to skip over challanges and get to places easy if you for example want to reach an event or boss area, then its a huge convenience to have a skyscale as you dont have to change between the bunny and other mounts, its not a fast mount, but its offering a lot of convenience.

However, is the mount worth getting? no. You will do fine with all the other mounts, and the griffin is much more fun to obtain and waaay less of a grind. The grind for the skyscale is.. well.. imho overwhelming and will burn you out. its not fun at all.

The mounts are not a necessity for having fun, but they do offer convenience. :)

So this post just made me look up skyscales and holy cow. Yeah I shall have to make peace with never having one of those. I would never have the time.

My wife, who really doesn't play video games and works full time job got her skyscale. Took her about a month and a half playing few hours a day.
The task is not as difficult as some make it out to be. Just takes a bit of dedication.
Something that a real mmorpg requires.. Dedication.

Saw a guildie have the same reaction a few days ago when she saw that you need to do Jumping Puzzles for the Skyscale.
You can actually skip all that if you make certain Skyscale food

hello my friend, do you know when this game is arrive on my steam?
The API date is Aug I think

That'll be what they're aiming for. They want to get DX11 support out of beta, re-balance the early game experience & re-implement part of the story that's been missing for 7 years before they release on Steam

Yeah, i agree it takes dedication, the point im making is that its not "fun" getting it. I spent a week of pure grind just to get it over with. But you are absolutely not wrong! :) and thats the most common complaint im seeing. The grind for griffon is fun. The skyscale is not. And this will turn a lot of players away from it.

And the fun fact is that the grind at this point is nerfed - it used to take a lot longer. (Went from feeding once a day to 4 times a day) And you can get all currencies by doing return to <map> achivements. Before you had to farm daily to get like 25-30 of each currency daily.

If something will take longer than a month for me to get I ignore it. If I am not able to dedicate enough time to unlock everything I am ok with that. I do not want them to nerf it or anything.

By following a guide and having all the needed currencies beforehand. But... details, right? Why should that be mentioned?

I do not play games to watch guides get achievement points and fill collections. When I log in I do not have a plan. I will kill this boss or do that dungeon what ever looks like fun at the time. What ever I unlock or level up on the way is nice.

Some people do like following guides and unlocking things faster and more efficiently. It sounds like there is content in Guild Wars 2 for them as well and that is great.

Thank you for the information about the skyscale grind though. The thought that I might one day follow a guide and put in the 4-5 days of play to unlock my very own skyscale fills me with determination.

Exactly - 4 days assuming you got all materials. I for example got the skyscale last week and it took me around 10 days total because i had to farm up the materials / do the "return to <map> achives.. Details are important. ;)

I will definitely buy this game when it's on steam :)

If you do all the content before getting to Dragonfall you should have most of the currency anyway

That would require someone to stick around on a map after finishing the story and potentially, map completion. I very much doubt most people would do that instead of moving on. Most LS maps are, simply put, boring. Especially that long after release when they aren't particularly populated either.
