Old GW2 account

So I played GW2 many many years ago got a Norn to like level 8 or whatever. Is there really any benefit for me playing the game through steam? or just installing the old launcher and playing through that.

also steam players can play with people who play through the launcher

Until its release on Steam no one can tell you what really will happen. Anyways, the game changed A LOT for you if you haven't played it for so long. If you can't wait, take the current launcher and just play. Maybe even create a new character.

If you only managed to get one char to level 8 there are very few benefits of continuing on same account. Only thing I can think of is that you can gather all the birthday gifts for last 8 years. If you play through Steam then you can not log into your old account tho.

I'd definitly try to get on my old account again!

PS: If you delete your old character all that is gone - but once you recived it it's unlocked for your whole account + you can put items in the bank to access them from a new character

The only real benefit to using the old account is ifyou played before the f2p model was implemented in 2015. If so, your old account won't have the same restrictions that new f2p accounts have when it comes to going between maps at low level, purchasing things at the trading post, etc. Additionally, your character will receive birthday gifts when you log back in, and there's some pretty decent stuff in some of those
