Russian Localization
Hello, ArenaNet!
Do you planning to add russian language to GW2? Many people want to play this game but will not without our native language.

No use asking Anet about Russian (or anything for that matter). They can't be bothered to interact with players that have had the game for years on their own forums. They even fired their community manager when they got rid of staff. Not the same team their anymore. Good luck getting them to answer here

Russian localization was requested a couple of years before, though arguably I dont have the metrics to gauge whether or not the demographic warranted a localization effort (keep in mind the game include a metric ton of voiced lines that would require casting someone and literally going over 8 years worth of voice lines.

As for the poster above... Nobody really expect real interraction on a Steam forum, for a game that wasn't originally released on Steam.

they will add the localization instantly if you get a deal where russian voice actors pay arenanet for voicing their game =D

It is not necessary to add russian voice acting. At least the russian text will be enough

More then paying to voice actors once could be the cost of hiring all the Russian-speaking moderators 24/7 who will start to check the chats and ban the Russian players for all the illegal stuff they say and do.

You want to say that this moment russians can swear and brawl in the chat?

Yes, you can speak any unofficial language in the chat and say whatever you want. There needs to be other player to report you for offending the rules and then the official mods maybe will look into it.

The problem with officially supporting specific language is that the company must make sure there are not offensive words used in public chat using that language or no illegal activities talked about. In MMORPG with public chat, this can be very expensive, and EU or US are not going to accept any excuses once the language is supported officially. Right now, anything beyond EN/DE/ES/FR game company will not be responsible as they can not moderate every single language in the world.

Same way, once you officially support one language you need to hire enough customer service people who can solve problems for players who only speak that specific language. These customer need to both speak the Russian well enough and know about potential technical problems in the game to offer advice in Russian.

It is not about Russian language specifically. You can pick any language and it faces exact same problems.

Вы не знаете, можно ли играть в эту игру в России? Я думал, они остановили сервис для России из-за конфликта на Украине.

Russian localization is next in line after all the 6+ year old bugs that require workarounds.

Localisation, especially for a game like GW2 that has a lot of written content, are expensive and Russia isn't a large market and their currency just fell off a cliff so even if they were a market worth going after they have no money.

It just isn't worth it.

Well, you can forget about russian localization. They didn't want to add it before some events, now there's even less reason to do it. We can't normally pay for the game (only through steam and not all our players want to do that), there are a lot of players in the game who will be against this and there's not that much profit in our market (there are many countries that bring in more revenue). So it's easier to learn English if you want to enjoy the game.
