Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

NCsoft Q2 financial review 2020
I have to say reading the newest quarterly financial revenue report of NCsoft is interesting :)

Compared to other NCsoft games GW2 is still quite a small product in their portfolio - as it always has been (except for release year). Mobile games are very strong at NCsoft!

BUT, GW2's revenue did grow steadily from 2019 to 2020. From 11 KRW BN in 2019 to now 16 KRW BN in August 2020. Quite nice to see! That's a plus of almost 50% ! While it shows the same sales numbers as in 2Q 2019 this looks quite nice. We all know how hard Anet was hit 2019 by the layoffs. It seems, we are back to quite good numbers in 2020.

I assume, NCsoft did look at its numbers of PC game sales and they saw GW2 is coming back slowly but steadily (even with layoffs). Therefore, they decided to support Anet more and letting them go to Steam as a test. I guess, they wanna try how good GW2 will run on Steam without spending too much money in active advertisement.

Overall, NCsoft's net income grew the last year while it is decreasing this year on quite high numbers. The company looks well in shape

Unfortunately, there seems to be "no plans" for a GW2 mobile version (page 17). Though, GW2 is still listed there ... who knows :P

The precedent is still there...
What if they pull a Konami and instead of pachinko machines they go for garbage phone games?

Tencent will begin to distribute Guild Wars 2 on WeGame in China soon. WeGame is like Tencent's ver. of Steam for the China market which has 300m+ registered users and 80m MAU. The MMO title originally released as a standalone client game in 2014, published by Kongzhong.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to read the details on http://gw2.kongzhong.com/ :golden:

Yeah, apparently the original publisher in China was pretty awful. I don't know exact details of what went wrong (I know they had things like subscription plans that provided you with free legendaries, etc. but that isn't totally unusual for games in the Chinese market), but they were hoping that a relaunch under the new publisher would be good for the game there.

Yeah, I know people want not to believe that this sudden steam launch means the game is just fine. But 8 years later say to me they had no choice. NCsoft is a hard master to please.

Not gonna lie, i have never played B&S but there's a couple good reasons why this game gets ppl attention ( )( ) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Lineage i'ts the Ncsoft "WoW" its biggest success and im talking about Lineage 1 then the mobile versions. Lineage 2 isn't that popular in S.Corea and can talk about this one since it was my fav mmo from 2005 to 2009-10 but i just couldn't stand so much grinding and p2w mechanics (a visa warrior could solo and kill a party of 5-6 with np whatsoever, it happened to me at Antharas Lair back in 2013 when this Feoh wizard killed me and 5 other buddies, everyone was lvl 90-92 the guy was 90 as well but hit like a damn nuke).

GW2 is the most westerner game from Ncsoft, if you look at B&S, Aion or Lineage they all look like the classic korean/asian mmo so i wouldn't be surprised if gw2 is not big in S.Corea i mean they kinda like Tera stuff, Blade and Soul, p2w mechanics, bewbs everywhere and massive grinding. Here well gw2 must compete with the king of mmo's aka WoW, then ESO, FF, BDO and plenty more.

Anyway good news, i bet it will improve much more with gw2 steam release.

Sorry for bring older topic. but I felt like adding on the details on the china's GW2.
I've played GW2 China server on 2017. I would not say it's a mess. It depends on the market on the region and what the player like or used to.

-> Free to play with paid expansion.
-> VIP system

Personally I find this VIP system the most scummiest monetization in chinese market; the more you spent the higher tier you will get. With each tier gives permanent benefit to your character with cost as an example, tier 15 require you spent 20k usd. It's also very common in chinese market and mobile games; similar to Lords mobile or Rise of Kingdom (if you play it, you will know).

I believe they;(chinese market) knows how to make money real quick. I had visited China and known about this since 2010 and the people are used to it. Again, this is exclusive to China and it's region market.

A good read on the their chinese mobile vip system:
