cant set past 60 hz
i used to be able to run this game at 144hz with no issues and now after having to use a different version of Xlive to get the damn game to work in windows 10 i cant set it past 60 hz and 60 hz feels jittery to me after years of 144hz

i need to know how to get the game to let me change it to 144 hz because it freezes the game when i change it from 60 to 144hz and when i try to enable vsync

specs are very high end and i know its more than capable of hitting that refresh rate when the ingame fps is over 300 at max settings 1080p

On Windows you can try to use DXVK: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/tag/v1.10.3
To install: Extract d3d9.dll d3d11.dll from the x32 folder in dxvk-1.10.3.tar.gz into your game directory beside dirt2.exe (Do not extract dxgi.dll, this will cause the game to fail to launch.)

Next up install xliveless to avoid the steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is GFWL (Be warned places saves in "Profile" folder in game directory) It causes issues with DXVK, and as a bonus you apparently can sail the high seas.. LMAO.

This issue is not present when using Proton (running the game on Steam Deck or Desktop Linux), just install xliveless and you should be good to go, uncapped framerate and all.

Be warned, alt-tabbing can cause the game to crash, but you shouldn't have issues with framerate caps. This game is pretty buggy on modern Windows versions unfortunately.

If your game is caught up not launching, delete the Dirt 2 folder under My Games in your Documents Library.

it wont run in widowed mode just freezes

i needed to use task manager to close the game

the game wont launch in windowed mode either

the only fix was to download a DLL file and use it to launch the game and this DLL file disabls the GFWL and allows me to get into game but still does not let me see past 60hz

sure i can play it but its not the same

Well, DiRT 2 works just fine on my PC, well only thing is I can't go past 60Hz either, only if I run the game in windowed mode, which works perfectly. I just press ALT+ENTER, and then I maximize it by pressing the square with the mouse, done.

Idk man, it just works fine here.

not sure why that hot key system does not work on mine but it does nothing

atl tab works as it should but not alt enter

the one time i got it working it was stuck at 800 x 600 and could not be resized

not sure why that hot key system does not work on mine but it does nothing

atl tab works as it should but not alt enter

the one time i got it working it was stuck at 800 x 600 and could not be resized

Sounds like something is broken on your end... I have a long time friend that also plays DiRT 2. Game just works perfectly on his PC aswell.

well i would love to know how it works on his .. GFWL is the main fault .. that i am sure

because before getting the DLL the game did not even launch

so i know its something to do with GFWL

I know for a fact that me and my friend just download DiRT 2 via Steam, like every other game, and it works. We just have to make a local profile with the Game for Windows Live overlay ingame, that's it. Game works fine, also LAN gaming but not online of course.

well then you did something different because i did the same thing and it did not work .. i had to download a DLL for it to even work and i cant force any refresh rates because i dont know how to code the ini file (or make one)

some times the DLL file generates one other times it does not

Trust me, the only thing we do, me and my friends, is to press the "Download"-button in Steam, let steam download DiRT 2 and install it, and that is it. Why doesn't it work for you? I don't know. Me and my friend never did any trickery, we just installed DiRT 2 as all other games on Steam. Again, it must be on your end.

well im not sure what it could be because i did the same thing and it did not work .. GFWL did not load right and that resulted in all GFWL games being broken

you used xlive.dll, that is why your game is broken, delete your local data for the game, uninstall GfWL, reinstall everything and use a legit account, pirate.

dude i have the game in my steam account

it does not work because for GFWL is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ service and windows 10 is not the same as windows 7

i bought the game when it was avalible on steam look at my game library

lol you insult me after admitting that you're clueless Games for Windows Live is now the Marketplace.

Do some research if you aren't a pirate, either way you're stealing the game or good air from normal humans.

no i am not

i bought it on steam when it was on steam

yet you mindlessly assume i stole it because i needed to download a work around

clearly the uneducated one is you because GFWL is a broken system and older games like Dirt 2 and Bullet storm and Flatout Ultimate Carnage require a GFWL client install to even run

downloading the Xlive DLL allows me to use them without needing to install the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ client

but i guess you dont think that DRM is a bad thing when it cripples games even when purchased by honest people

again look at my games library on my profile

i have quite a few GFWL games in there

unless you think i am wrong lol but i doubt you know how to look at another persons library of games
