Trade resources for gold coins

So I've played the game for about 3 hours and managed to free all the rat brothers. I'm at a point where we are to restore the Crimson Fort kitchen and the Chef rat is requesting 8 gold coins for reparations. The problem is side quests that grant gold are not appearing on the quest board and I am unsure if I wasted some of the gold that I already had at vendor's shop (tavern building). I've explored all of the map in all three regions around fort, village and hunter's cabin. I am spinning in circles and can't progress.
I see that there are 2 NPCs that serve as exchange points for bug parts and iron bars but nothing that allows me to sell my collected and stored armor and/or other resources for gold.
I also posses Crimson fort sewer key that does not work on crypt-like entrance but I do see sewer entrance point beneath the draw bridge. Please help.

Check the quest boards at the elder and ranger cabins. I was concerned about how I would find the gold as well, but the game always has missions available at one of the boards when you need money.

This was the problem that made me post the comment. The gold awarding quests were not appearing on either of the boards... Started from scratch and this seems to have been fixed.
