A way to farm them is to set up a Bookery on a triple cross path so you walk by it 3 times in one loop. Once you burn the charges, it becomes an abandoned library that spawns books. Drop a Vampire's Castle to overlap the Bookery spots and any fights there will spawn Vampire mages that also drop fragments.
Three attempts now, great tile/card set up, half the time Mages and Books run away and when they are defeated they have yet to drop any Astral Orbs. Literally the last thing I need to unlock the alchemy.
People keep saying 'use the alchemist', but it's a dead point, because I can't even build the alchemist.
I defeated at least 100 Aastra/Mage types, like Mage Watcher, Mage Vanpires and Dark Slimes (on chapter 3), but I only have 9 shards.
- Farm bosses and pick them up from rewards where they can randomly appear.
- Synthesize it farming other resources.
Otherwise, I think it's better to farm them from books than from watch mages.
Just tried using books only (not watch mages and only 1 vampire).
I had about 20 tiles covered by the books.
This works better but is still very slow.
After 10 loops, I collected 9 shards.
This is a record high for me.
