the second one should be coming out later this year as well
stellar game, everything is edgy and the gameplay is very fun and also has high replay value like loop hero
not the same type of game in the slightest but it has a dark theme to it
even the jungle is very dull and sad looking but beautiful for it's gloomy beauty lol
oh! also darkwood! not as colorful and it's quite a frightening game, super duper horror style
it's truly incredible how amazing a game darkwood is, and it was only made by 5-6 people. def look into that if you want to :)
dead space 1 and 2 are also very dark, and spooky. if i could live somewhere it'd be in the damaged ishimura out in the middle of space hell
uhh hmm. scorn is also dark and depressing looking. incredible, beautiful art and creativity was put into the game but the actual gameplay is garbage. it's full of weird puzzles and what not but the way it looks looks like it would be fun to walk through, if you're a fan of edgy/horror stuff XD
also cannot forget left 4 dead/lrd2 :3 hella mods from the community as well, so you can make it look a lot spookier~
idk hope this helps, i'd recommend any of these games to someone who likes darker looking video games n-n)b
I'm having trouble thinking of a game that fits both of these. Most of the retro stuff I can think of that is this particular kind of gloomy are in other mechanical genres, like Metroidvanias, or the Zelda type of ARPG. I feel like I have a distant memory of at least seeing ads years ago for actual old RPGs that have this aesthetic, but I wouldn't know which ones to recommend.
If you want more an action rpg ala metroidvania style then the perfect choice for that genre would be Blasphemous. It's basically a metroidvania mixed with a Medieval catholic fever dream
Cool, except another dude mentioned it 2 weeks ago.
Beyond divinity
This franchise
Wonder if Mina the Hollower won't nail what we're looking for here.
