Enemies and bosses scale based on the number of loops you've done, the longer you play that run the harder the boss will be. Also the Lich has a gimmick where when he spawns in he also spawns in eight palace buildings around the campfire, each of these buildings boost his stats. You can weaken him by using oblivion cards to remove the palaces or building around the camp so that the palaces can't spawn in the first place.
A small tip: Turn on the "Automatically pause in the end of the loop" option. It let's you retreat without having to fight the boss, even if they're on the camp.
You can avoid summoning out a boss if all you want to do is collect resources for upgrading. Just don't fill the boss gauage at the upper left. Fill the bar til its almost about to summon, then stop.. retreat at your camp around loop 10-11 and take ALL the resources back.. repeat a couple of times and you'll probably get to a point where you'll just faceplow the boss when you decide to tackle him again.
If none of that sounds like it could keep your interest then I'd say its a safe bet the rest of the game won't either. Its a fun game if you like strategy over idling.
And the boss fight is only fast to reach if you decide to make it be fast by placing tons of cards asap.
