What is the point of a wheat field? (the scarecrows make the healing useless)
I am trying to figure out what the benefit of a wheat field is. Using early loop numbers, the field will heal for ~15hp, but the scarecrows it spawns do about 20hp damage *per hit*.

This seems to make the wheat field useless, as the only way you actually benefit from the healing is if you can oneshot the scarecrows.

Is this the case, or am I missing something here?

PS I realize this doesn't exactly apply to the necromancer with his magic shield, but it does apply to the other classes [\spoiler]

You want to alternate between wheat field and town to max out the hp gain. But aside from that I assume you want to put another monster tile beside it because the scarecrow attacks all units for you.

I tried this a couple times and the healing I get after the scarecrow fights basically covers what I lost. So not amazing if you're expecting to heal up more after passing all the villages and fields.
Scarecrows attack EVERYBODY in the fight as if they have a Damage to All, so they can help whittle down enemies from tiles adjacent to the road

In later chapters scarecrow scares off 1 other mob at the start of the fight.
Fields are useful if you need rations really badly I guess.

Wheat fields and towns get stronger each round and with your hero advancing as well it should outpace the scarecrows especially once you know how to make towns even better (which is kind of a spoiler so I won't say).

Also, If just about anything in the game is feeling like a wash you probably need to stack more defensive bonuses like evasion, vamp, or regen.

The downside to this is that they can cause you to fail quests from chapter 2 onward because they also banish a random enemy.

seems like theres 1 crucial part that everyone has left out about them. they're artificial life. meaning they have a chance to drop shards of crafting. these are the most reliable ways to get this and you can get a large mass of them to farm for this material as many places need this to craft or upgrade. so if you want to get this material, you're going to want to have wheat fields.

also if you make a wheat field and you remove the village, you'll get abandoned fields, which says it can make fields of blades. I dont know what those are yet, I've tried to do this but never was successful in getting a fields of blades. but it could provide other sources of materials too.

The real problem with scarecrows is they never drop terrain cards, meaning you can softlock yourself with towns and fields.
