How to beat Chapter 1
I am being filtered by the first boss, and I don't what I'm doing wrong.
Doesn't matter how much defense I stack, or vampirism, or whatever. He does too much damage, and I can never do enough. He gets tougher with each loop, so there is nothing I can do to win.
What am I missing?

Since the Lich deals magic damage, Defence does nothing against him. Ideally, you'll want to use Evasion if possible, as he attacks slowly but hits hard, so avoiding the damage is beneficial and it won't drain your Stamina very much due to the infrequency of the attacks.

If you can, try to make sure you block the spaces around the campfire so that the Lich's Palace tiles aren't able to spawn, as these make him more difficult.

Spawning him earlier is better than spawning him later due to how he scales, although you still need to be prepared with some evasion gear and decent weaponry and not be too low on health if you want a chance at success.

More generally, if you are having trouble with a boss, you probably need to be more aggressive with monster spawning early on - the more monsters you spawn, the more gear you can get and the earlier you can summon the boss (which means he will have weaker stats. The bpss spawns after you have placed a certain number of tiles). Generally, weaker, fast spawning monsters like spiders can help you get lots of tiles and tougher monsters like vampires and skeletons can get you high quality gear.

Basically you want to get to him as early as possible. From a stats point of view,here is what your up against. Placing 100 tiles causes him to spawn. Note that besides placing tiles from your deck, making the harpy peak and having a "Ransacked Village" change to Counts Lands" will increase this, while using Oblivion on a tile will decrease it. I seem to get about 10 tiles per loop on the first 3 or so, but general spawn him on turn 6 to 9. As far as his health and damage and starting from loop 4 he has 445 health and does 60 DMG. His health goes up by 120 on loop 5 to 565, and each subsequent loop the increase goes up by 5, so 125 is added by loop 6 for 690. Damage seems to go up around 20 points. I find that going with rocks as one of my land tiles is a good choice as I usually have way more health then he does. Also one thing that night help is sticking to a small deck size with one type of monster, spiders or ratwolves good choices. Also try limiting and spreading out the monster tiles seems to help.

Try a build of Stacking evasion I had 55%. Then I got the perk that gives counter on evades and the perk that gives health back on counter it was just sick nasty. I didn't get hit once :csd2smile:
Consider his Lich's castles too: they can't spawn if there are things built around the camp and you can destroy them with oblivions-> each one raises his stats by 5%. One really good way to get extra cards very quickly is ghosts (strong memories?) from battle fields. You gotta be careful not to get too many at once tho, I only use them in combination with road lanterns. Also upgrade your camp! You should definitely have potions (I had potions level 2, which is way better) and traits from the herbalist and the gymnasium

Grove + Blood Grove combo. It will kill the Lich at 15% health.

As others have mentioned, build up every single tile around the camp to stop palaces from spawning. Each one increases his hp and attack by 5%.

Stones/Mountains in a 3x3 pattern will turn into a big mountain with major HP boost (only works once per run).

Make sure every meadow you place gets upgraded (just needs anything but another meadow adjacent to it).

Chrono Crystals double meadows effectiveness.

Village with Vampire Mansion placed early will upgrade into a manor before the boss spawns (takes 3 loops). Heals a good bit as you pass through, but for those 3 loops you'll have to deal with 4 ghouls + vampire each loop (less if you have lanterns). You can deal with one less set if you place it after you've passed it.

Those last three points will help you reach the boss closer to max HP.

Meta advancements help a lot too (buildings in town). The Gymnasium in particular will let you "level up" and get traits, some are quite powerful.

Damn glad I came here. I had no idea you could block the palaces I assumed they would just replace tiles!
