You can just ignore them for now, but they should really be hidden until you can actually interact with them.
You can see what upgrading a building will do by just hitting the upgrade button.
and please do not explain it with using unexplained game terminology. so often in this forum I see someone answer stuff in a way that only helps those who already know what means what. like "what does X mean?" "oh it just means how many X you have" ;)
the game is fantastic, but nothing is explained and it is incredibly frustrating if you play to optimize like many do
these artifect are divided in 4 catagories: furniture, food tools and jewelry.
So these icons your seeing on buildings unlock more slots
I dont see how you would optimize your build befor unlocking this, but there you have it.
A little apple icon for example, means that the total food artifacts that you can equip is increased by 1. And the same goes for the other four categories. There is a fifth one that governs how many trinkets you can equip at the same time, and it is easier to distinguish (it's background is red-ish).
You cannot exceed individual category limits, or your total maximum.
