Swamp+vampires makes for just about the most simple run you can imagine. The main downside is that unlike many other tiles you do not get any resources for passing over a swamp.
When you get into a situation where the monsters don't hit you hard enough and you can't spend potions fast enought, before they reach cap, to keep the skill useful it is one, most practical, of several options to guaranteed spend your potions - set up a couple of swamps to allow you to harm yourself with your own vampirism.
In addition, mosquitoes have souls as well, and they also help to increase health through the crypt.
Maybe the swamp just ties into things we don't yet have.
Wouldn't surprise me if there was going to be a way in the future to make swamp an integral part of some combo or other.
I dimly remember reading something to the effect of "if it does well, we'll get more content" from the official Discord, but I also inferred this from the fact that there are two additional item slots for hero characters that none of the current characters use.
Logically we'd need at least 1 additional card or patch that makes those available for use, but a new character class would be more likely.
I'd also say it would be silly not to think about DLC or additional content with 500k happy campers highly anticipating moar. >_>
