the calla calla mission makes me regret buying this game
i enjoyed the game up til this point, but the design of this mission is so atrocious that if i could, i would refund the game. having enemies that insta-heal all damage and have enough health that it takes at least two characters to kill them is retarded enough, but then there's also a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the ♥♥♥♥♥. this makes the game turn into a tedious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chore that is not fun to play at all.

And it's not the worst.
The game needs a good rebalancing.

Agree with chore. Missions starting wirh Calla Calla are getting worse and worse. Wait until Abandoned Mines. Few witches, who can summon few enemies per turn. Many bleeding bombs. Bosses in Gears Tactics were less annoying, than missions in HW2. Not sure how they tested this game. They are doable, but as you said, it's a chore.

To be honest Gears Tactics was pretty boring, i dont think thats a good comparison. I agree that the mission isnt well signposted beforehand. I had alot of trouble too. My main problems where (a) this is the first mission with a significant difficulty ramp, so I played less conservative than I should have and (b) I didnt prepare for bleed attacks (had some bandages per chance). Once you see the enemy composition you can just bring whatever would work.

You have to play this game like an old game, where you load and save a lot, else its gonna be a big bummer. If you accept that, I think its a positive they have missions that ♥♥♥♥ you over because then, you can create a solution and thats basically the tactics fun. At least thats how I see it.

Btw. if you wanna see a not complete tactics nerd do this mission cohhs playthrough ep 14 on Youtube. He even missed some synergy with doing 9 damage with rifle + shadowswap and still definitely a lot smoother than my attempt. Mission seems pretty okay in that video imho.

Very true. Even though I've just managed to finish 'calla calla' in Nightmare difficulty, this game is almost zero tolerance of making any mistake (says, the "sequence" of all your moves of characters). So I gonna 'Save-Load' pretty often to see if the moves work.

The first time I did Calla Calla I got my ass handed to me. So I decided to do all the other content I could do up to that point, and then return to Calla Calla. The second time I slaughtered my way through the mission pretty handedly.

You definitely have some great options to bring for the mission. Get some Desert Ranger handguns for Gin and Bill, who can get +1 damage with handguns to bump that up to 7 damage a shot. Together with a nail bomb you can kill 10hp enemies. Bill's ability is quite good as well, bringing multiple enemies down within kill range for a bravado streak. Enemies are bunched up for most of the mission, so consider giving Flynn a shotgun, she can make great use of it.

While revenants healing themselves back to full can be annoying, they do lose 1 max hp every time they do it. 10hp enemies will be reduced to 9hp, which put them in 1-shot range of Cla'lish with a rifle (using that +1 rifle damage trait).

The mission is definitely challenging, but bringing the right tools goes a long way in making it more manageable.

I did Calla Calla on nightmare with 2 turns remaining while taking my time a little bit at the end in order to avoid unnecessary damage, so it's not only possible to do it, but there's even room for error and suboptimal plays on the highest difficulty. However, if you don't know how to use the Bravado system to your advantage and play this game as other tactical games where you stick to covers, shoot and progress slowly, you will definitely struggle.

yeah, I agree. and I guess the name of that mission is related to Stephen king's dark tower series, book V I guess, The wolves from/of Calla.

There are a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of synergies, tactics and tricks to employ. Either learn them or lower the difficulty.
Stop crying for rebalancing just because you don't use the tools handed to you.

1.: Use either Bill, dynamite or Gin to soften the undead up, then do a massive bravado chain. You can easily take out an entire map worth of enemies that way.
2.: Any kill triggers bravado. That "soften up" move can also trigger it if you manage to get one of the low healt undead in it. Don't have one in it? Make one by shooting one of them or by swapping in one with flynn.
3.: Gin can easily reach 9 damage with a rifle or 8 with a handgun by this point (in bravado) that is enough to one shot more than half of the enemies there.
4.: Don't waste AP by bravadoing from the same spot. If you are using a 2 AP shot you can also move before shooting every time.

You should always aim to instakill enemies for bravado. So the healing won't matter so much. those you cant kill (the big ones) try to keep away from until you can shadow swap them in your group so you can instakill them then. Also when in doubt use dynamites :)
I did this mission with two turns to spare for the achievement with Gin, Flynn, Laughing Deer and Clalish (though Old man Bill at less than full HP would probably be even better).

nah dude ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ with those shadow dancers ripping you of all your HP just to recover from a 3 damage melee strike. Those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ make ZERO sense. Scarier than Mammon.

nothing you said is new to me, i HAVE played the bloody game ffs so get the ♥♥♥♥ off your high horse. the devs have said they will rebalance stuff because a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of players have said that the balancing in this game is bad

those guys weren't a huge issue(at least not in the missions i've played so far) because you only fight one or two at the same time at most and as long as you don't damage them without killing them in the same turn they don't use that ability. the issue in this mission is that ALL the enemies regen and have high health which turns the game into a slog

i don't want to come off as disrespectful here, but i do understand the bravado system, i don't know why everyone keeps mentioning it like it's some hidden mechanic or something. the healing does matter quite a bit actually because it means you can't set up a chain for the next turn, you HAVE to kill everyone you damage in the same turn otherwise it's a waste of moves, which is not at all how the game worked up til this mission. all the previous missions allowed you to make some mistakes, but even then none of your actions felt like a waste, because you could still deal damage and weaken your enemies whereas in this mission you almost have to play perfectly because you will keep getting weaker the more drawn out the fight becomes, this slows the game down to a crawl, which is my main issue with this mission, it's not fun, just tedious af

I guess you didn't watch the video. You do not have to spend a turn setting up a bravado sweep. That just exposes you to more return fire and runs up the clock. Effective use of skills and dynamite, as shown in the video, can let you bravado sweep an entire group the turn you encounter them.
