(that mostly depends on how well you keep the level low while creating fusions. the lower your level as long as possible, the less XP you waste)
You can change to the prism you want to upgrade after fighting level 19 and equip a ring, drink a concoction for +25% multiplicative EXP gain. Also you can cleanse your trait points for another 15% on the scholar trait (even though I never managed to do it in time).
If you worry about dying in the middle and not having the chance to change prisms, having a Thaen fruit on you greatly helps. Once you lose it, you can do everything above and just liquid escape to secure your gain.
For legendaries, each roll require 50000 EXP. I personally liked playing 4 levels on apoc gauntlet, then suicide as above. With +25% EXP that gives you exactly 50000.
