How do the worlds work?
Loved R1, finally pulled the trigger on R2. I started off from the Ward crystal in the N'Erud Agronomy Sector, which wiki tells me is DLC. the wiki also shows 2 other stories. Are the stories part of the world generation, or did something royally screw up in my game?
Should I potentially reroll the campaign? I almost feel underleveled for N'Erud, even though this is where the crystal sent me.

Each campaign is a sequence of 1st world -> labyrinth -> 2nd and 3rd world -> root earth. The worlds are Nerud, Yaesha, and Losomn. One of them is picked to be the first world where you start your campaign. The other two are simultaneously available to you after you acquire the portal key from labyrinth.
With full DLC access, each world has 3 story lines. Each campaign you will get a random story line for each world. Here you got the DLC story line for Nerud and that's totally normal, i.e. you don't need to finish non-DLC story lines to get access to DLC story lines.
In general don't worry about scaling. Each map you open will be scaled according to your character energy level, so there are no "under-leveled" for any world. There are indeed certain story lines more difficult than others but the difference is often negligible in lower difficulties.

You will visit 5 worlds during a single campaign: Yaesha, N'erud, Lonsomn and 2 other special plot worlds that are not randomized.

The order in which you visit Yaesha, N'erud, and Lonsomn will be random and the story you play through on each will be randomly selected from the 3 possible options.

You're not screwed though. There is no 'correct' order to play through a world's stories. They are more or less independant, though there is some overlap in overall lore. Characters that show up in some world stories also show up in the others. There is no set level for a given story either.

The game is made in such a way that the areas will scale with your character's power level with the goal of ensuring generally level difficulty throughout your entire playthrough.

If you wish to access a world's other stories the easiest way to do so is via Adventure Mode which you are likely familiar with from Remnant 1. You unlock adventure mode for a world by beating it in a campaign. As I already mentioned the two special plot worlds are not randomized, so you cannot roll adventures for them.

Additionally you can tell what story is present in a world by looking at the world map (the thing that opens when you use a World Stone or checkpoint to teleport somewhere). Each World Story has different art for the World Map.

What everyone else said is right, but I'd like to add the note that you probably actually should re-roll. The Dark Horizon DLC's overworld is a kind of miserable experience to navigate, even for more experienced players. If you look it up, you'll find multiple people basically softlocked in their campaign because they can't figure out how to progress, an issue basically no other storyline has. So I'd recommend a re-roll, just so your first experience with the game isn't a navigation nightmare, with what I'd consider to be the hardest fight of any of the normal world bosses.

I think the Dark Horizon DLC isn't the best start here. Since rerolling worlds is part of the lore, there is nothing wrong with trying another shot.
OK I see the worries of other people here. I think they are right, it has two of the hardest overworlds to navigate. So sure if you want to reroll. Try it later.

Yeah, I don't think having the second boss i face being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ twinsies fight is really good when I have quite literally no good trait points or archetype skills yet
Eidt: Rerolled, got N'Erud again, but starting in the Forgotten Prison. Anything will be better thn failing the Amalgam fight another 40 times

Oh, that's not good. Just to warn you, that was just a normal boss dungeon, which can appear on any version of N'Erud. Not the world boss. If you struggled with that, then it's definitely a good thing you re-rolled, it only gets harder from there.

Anyway, good luck. If you're stuck in one dungeon, try exploring the overworld map and other dungeons more. Every map has a trait point book and world drop gear item somewhere on it, and dungeons also have "injectables", which are special terrain generation parts which have 1-3 gear items they spawn with, usually tied to puzzles. And then, the end of dungeons usually contain the part which makes that dungeon unique, and has even more gear items.

So yeah, keep an eye out, take it slow, build up some power and skills. Try to get any form of health regen if you can, it'll help a ton.

I remember during my first Nerud run, I struggled with the Astropath. I needed several attempts, and I couldn't beat it alone. Especially at the beginning, bosses can be challenging and it's better to open the game for randoms to get help before you get too frustrated.
