Armor, DR, and Instakilling Bosses
So I like playing this game as a tanky melee focus. I play co-op with a buddy that likes support sniping so we make a good team. In Remnant 1 I felt pretty on par with his dps, and had a decent survivability. Now I feel like wet toilet paper in a cat 10 tornado. It feels like armor/ DR in this game is literally broken. For Example:
10% DR from traits; 47.5% from Letto II armor; 30% from 2 stacks bulwark; Void heart pop for +50%; 25% from Stone Skin. thats a whopping 160% DR!!! I'm playing with 1 person, on Nightmare difficulty. I get one shot by most bosses, 2-3 hits from normal enemies!!!! Even when we item run on survivor difficulty, I've been 1 shot by elites!
Even if there is some BS diminishing returns on DR, tell me how my buddy with 30% DR wearing light armor, and no bonus health, can take twice the hits I can? Survive when I can't? Tell me why basically ever boss has a melee attack that just auto kills me? Tal Ratha has one where he kind of just lazily swipes his hand, and it looks like a 'get away from me' attack, even with my buddy popping a shield on me for 100% of my 130 health, I STILL DIE. I'm wearing the heaviest armor in the game but I get staggered by trash mobs constantly? The sheer lack of survivability with the tankiest build I can currently make isn't even compensated by damage output. Some enemies and bosses I can't even swing at because they constantly fly out of reach, move faster, and use ranged attacks, and the ones I can seem to take chip damage, even with a maxed out Atom Splitter and rage skill active.

Devs: Please please please, fix this. It makes the game completely un-enjoyable to play, and instead of progressing I feel like I'm getting screwed over. Re-work the stagger, melee damage, and DR. Melee players should be rewarded for getting in close to deal damage, not punished by hitting like a slumber party pillow and getting ♥♥♥♥♥ slapped into oblivion the moment we close the gap. Sure, the final boss has a pretty good weapon for melee builds but why do I have to beat the game BEFORE i do anything useful? and all it does is basically make melee builds a ranged build.

TL:DR - Game treats DR and stagger like a joke, and melee players get punished with insta-kill attacks, and adds insult to injury by making melee hit like a weak breeze until you beat the game and have access to many late game items.

Damage wise, some of my better damage comes from melee.

But yea, DR is kinda ♥♥♥♥. It'd be nice if investing in it was actually rewarded, but at this point I've just given up on getting any good results from DR and ended up just going with a regen tank set up. Which feels cheap.

Some attacks just deal massive damage to you, and even being tanky wont probably save you ( especially vs vicious / spiteful enemies ).

Rather than trying to pushing towards DR, expecting to invalidate mechanics and be somehow godlike, try to learn the boss attack patterns and properly dodge.

Tal ratha's hands are quire easy to deal with... you just have to walk/run...

ps: melee is already viable ( several players already tried a melee campaign ), but not the way you expect/want.

It's rather silly the Devs would put in so much effort into Melee only for it to hardly matter and be incapable of doing anything to the final boss. The Devs could have spent all that art and animation budget, plus programming time, just not including melee all together, instead of a shallow imitations of mechanics from games that made lots of money.

Melee is an addition to the game, it's just there. Just making it harder on yourself trying to main it.
Elden Ring would be better if you want melee.

I am 50/50 on this matter. On one hand I like that the game requires skill and dodging and that the enemies are insane. On the other I believe that dodge, tank, vampire and pet defense playstyles should all be equal and viable. First approach gives that horror feeling and the other would be normal game balance.

They likely have a lead designer that doesn't know ♥♥♥♥ about ♥♥♥♥, and they changed from the initial developers and guess what happens when you have a new group of folks, following a guy who doesn't know ♥♥♥♥ about ♥♥♥♥?

Remnant 2.

If you level your gear, you get weaker.

Don't level your gear, and your armor doesn't get nerfed.

Yeah sadly DR doesn't help much when enemies do like what, 450% damage and what not on highest diff?

Just like the Souls games the focus is on not getting hit. If you have heavy armor then your dodge sucks just like Souls. The enemies scale with your power level which is largely based on your weapons. You upgrade, they get stronger. The way I've survived is by combining Challenger and Invader. Challenger gives you one extra life, Invader gives you the Void Cloak which is better than an extra life. I use the Hyperconductor Amulet which doubles your Skill charges and reduces cool down by 50%. I maxed out the Expertise trait which gives another 20% off cool down. I have the Burden of the Mariner ring which is another 25% off cool down. With all of that I can usually manage to stay alive by dodging when the skill isn't active. You also need a weapon that packs a punch. I use the Sagittarius bow because you may only get one shot between rolls so it should be a good one. Putting the Slayer mod on the bow increases damage every time you reload. It's a bow so every shot is a reload. So what I'm saying is getting the right combination of archetypes with the amulets and rings that support that combo, plus the right weapon and traits, is what's important and not DR. If you focus too much on not getting hurt then you've already lost.

Go with a shield regen build, tanky af

DR math is somehow broken... I have 50% health ring that should give 15%, than another ring that gives 15% at 50% health, I have amulet with another 10% plus 60% from armour.

That should reach cap at 80% right? But I got like 69% DR...

Dr caps at 80%. That being said you can still build tanky and not get 1 shot. Shields are a huge benefit which you should look into.
