The only actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attack from Venom that I despise just because it can easily become undodgeable is that slam he does that spawn brambles all over the place. With Cancer there's at least a couple of attacks that you just have to pray will be able to dodge without getting a beanstalk up your ass.
Focus on dodging, try and get one of those engine things between him and you (very useful when he's in his floating phase) and try getting a DOT in your mods if you can, I had acid shot on my bulldog and burning shot on my tech-22.
I have both Barkskin and Blood Bond maxed out on my guy which means I could get nailed from time to time without getting 1-shot, but I also swapped to the crescent pendant (or whatever is called) that gives lifesteal and +20% damage at full health.
What eventually seemed to work more consistently was that you had to dodge straight backwards away from him.
Still took me far too many runs, but most of those were my own fault, not just janky hitreg.
