How is Hardcore?
Does it feel like its implemented with care, or is it one of those games that just added this as a setting on top of a non hardcore game? I am assuming the latter but would love to be pleasently surprised.

For all gameplay purposes, the hardcore mode is just a setting on top. With the exception of there being a character-losing perma-death, the game itself is pretty much the same. However, there are some elements, that while not exclusive to hardcore mode, do affect it in significant ways.

First and foremost, there is the fact that there is an account-wide meta-progression component in place. There are many rewards, like weapons, rings, amulets, armor sets, and most significantly, archetypes, that become available to all characters once unlocked. As a result, this will give you a wider range of options whenever you start off on a new character.

Second, there is the addition of death prevention mechanics. You can't prevent all types of deaths with these, but they do give you a bit of a safety net for most combat situations.

Now, as I mentioned before, these things are not exclusive to hardcore; however, they do seem to be almost tailor made for it. For example, aside from maybe starting a fresh run with friends, there is really no reason to create another non-hardcore character, so the benefits of the account-wide rewards will be felt almost exclusively when playing in hardcore mode. A similar thing could be said for the death-prevention mechanics. When playing normally, death is a minor temporary setback; not so much for hardcore, so the effect is that much more significant.

Hope this helps.

It actually does. It seems a bit more implemented than I assumed it would be. Thanks!

I wouldnt really agree with the guy above on most things tbh. I have done hardcore for over 1000 hours because i enjoy the danger of having to restart from 0 if i die.

I am literally known as the hardcore guy on the discord server to reach out to when its about hardcore. Like Lefi and Frisky are the ones for speedruns for this game (which i do too, but i started way later and they both do skips while i do no skip speedrunning)

duno what you expect out of a hardcore mode with how you are asking but all i expected was a one life mechanic, and thats all it is. It is completely separate from any difficulty increase other then that your character gets deleted if you die.

there are 4 rings, 1 amulet and 1 gun (but can be corrupted so basically 2) locked behind hardcore as unlocks.

I wasnt expecting anything, but I was willing to stop playing softcore if hardcore was well implemented. In games that dont have some form of progression, I usually just go softcore hardest difficulty for the first run.

there are no bugs left where a fixed death would actually kill your character on hc, if you were wondering about that kinda stuff. progression in this game is basically just getting stuff together, beating the game on the highest difficulty at some point and making nice builds.

maybe you know all that already but im gonna write it out anyways.

the "early" game is usually seen as your first entire campaign, with the mid game being the next ones up to 10 campaigns after which you should finally have all the stuff for build making and going for prisms which is seen as the late game.

ofcause more casual players could finish after finishing a single campaign but the game is made to be replayed so for the story alone, you will at least have to play some adventures of the stories you havent seen yet.

I strongly recommend you keep one non-hardcore character that you can use to explore, discover and unlock different things to your heart's content. Especially so, since there are several rewards that require multiple playthroughs, specific world and/or dungeon combinations or incur a significant amount of risk, and are somewhat difficult to obtain without dying at least once, especially if you're not familiarized with the zone.

Now, regarding meta-progression, I want to be clear: most of the items you will come across are tied exclusively to your character. On the other hand, the things that can be unlocked for all characters are:

- Archetypes
- Rewards for beating the campaign. Higher difficulty levels will also unlock the previous level rewards.
- Rewards for hardcore mode campaign progression.
- Some of the more complicated to obtain items can be unlocked for all characters, so you only have to go through the process once.
- Several hidden rewards for doing certain actions.

Once unlocked, these will become available for puchase through vendors at Ward 13.

Just letting you know in advance, so you can temper your expectations a bit.

I ONLY play on hardcore, little over 170 hours and I finally beat the whole game without dieing. Non-hardcore seems very easy and just boring.

Sorry. I actually thought you mean that there are items we can get in normal gameplay that we CANNOT get in hardcore due to the death mechanism. I know about these reward locked behind hardcore.
So we can actually get EVERY item, as it is in the normal gameplay, in hardcore?

Not really no. This game is not designed with a Hardcore playthrough in mind.

One required story boss is a non-traditional boss encounter that can oneshot you regardless of your defenses or any extra lives.

There are also certain side dungeons that employ instant kill traps.

Hardcore is not the 'intended' way to play Remnant 2. Some people enjoy it though. Personally I think it's better left as a 2nd character kinda thing. I imagine Hardcore would be quite frustrating for most first-time players.

with over 1000 hours in hardcore, having a character with 400 hours right now, i dont see why this would stop anyone from being able to do hardcore. you learn to cope with the insta kill dangers so much that you can do them in your sleep, and then its fine

yea you can get all the items, its just more that are locked behind coop as you will need an anchor for anything that you have to die for that can revive you. i simply got someone else that also wanted to 100% a hardcore character from the server to do it with me.

this is what we did for participarion medal lmao (die to a boss multiple times on apoc)
https://youtu.be/dPqsDfiv3zc

if you dont know, in coop, you only die if the entire team dies. else you can just be revived like normal making hardcore coop a lot less difficult then singleplayer

My man doesn't understand that most well-designed hardcore modes will make sure there are no instant kills so you can actually have fun. I've never played a Hardcore mode that didn't remove instant-death from parkour because that is literally the most basics.
