So the usual:
- Rerouting Cable + Generating Band
- Whispering Marble + Dried Clay Ring
- Drakestone Pearl for 1/5 stamina regen during melee spam.
Recovery trait is important while Siphoner trait is optional since my health often full quickly even in Apocalypse.
Notable melee weapons with Shield Breaker mutator:
- Any Scythe. (but weak damage)
- Flail spin spam (highly requires stagger reduction)
- Rebellion Spear (decent damage & quick charged attack spam)
The dev heavily nerfed melee weapons with ranged slash to have same damage as light attack.
Challenger/Medic w Juggernaut/Healing Shield
-Matriarch's Insignia
-Tear of Lydusa
-Hardcore Metal Band
-Ring of Atonement
-Brawlers Pride
-Use the wrathbringer w shielded strike
Whatever ranged weapons you like (I just use em to proc Familiar and Knight Guard)
-Leto Mk2 full set
-Tranquil Heart w Armor eff/Melee speed/DR
Max out Siphoner in traits and build out as much DR as you can. As long as your are swinging and connecting you'll have lots of shield gen and healing. Made this build to deal w Sunken Witch.
Stamina Recovery Delay relic fragment also can replace Drakestone Pearl ring.
Damage boost kinda less important now my build has at least +44% damage boost & extra +35% within 10 meters.
Alchemist/Challenger archetype so I can stack more Concoctions and spam Confidence Booster or Gul Serum during combat. It's an expensive combination only for end game build.
Medic/Challenger for budget alternative.
Bruiser armor to keep my dodge weight at Medium.
It was pretty good before the update, when it needed 5 hits to proc, but its even better now that it only needs 3 hits. I was using it for a while with my 50% life build, but I'm going to eventually get around to making a proper build centered around that combo.

Probably only melee weapon that has great damage
You're just going to have to use ranged attacks at some point. You cannot kill bosses like Mother Mind or Legion without a ranged attack. No way around it.
Build-wise I think I would probably start with Challenger + Invader. You can swap those two if you don't need Challenger's rez. Whispering Marble, Clay Ring, Thalos Eyelet, Burden of the Destroyer, Fae Bruiser Ring. You may also wish to swap Burden of the Destroyer with Drakestone Pearl.
Throw healing stuff on your guns+ heal grenade + spirit healer, Rune Pistol, etc. Or just swap an archetype for Medic. Using Medic gives you access to +25% all damage as well as a very strong shield. Relic wise? Shielded Heart.
The melee mutators I like are Shocker, Shielded Strike or Tainted Blade. Reinvigorate sounds like it could be good too, considering Thalos Eyelet Buffs stam regen.
Crystal Staff, Krell Axe, Huntress Spear + Shocker/Tainted Blade are all strong choices.
In terms of the "True" melee weapons: Wrathbringer, Abyssal Hook, RItualist Scythe or Stonebreaker are probably the "best". Assassin's Dagger seems it could be good if paired with Invader's "Wormhole" skill since that teleports you behind enemies.
Primary Archetype
- Invoker: Way of Kaeula
Secondary Archetype
- Invader: Worm Hole (triggers a perfect dodge upon arrival)
Armor (Medium Encumbrance)
- Body and legs from Disciple Set
- Head and gloves from the Elder Set.
Amulet
- Shock Device
Rings:
- Excess Coil (Gains shield when using a skill)
- Rerouting Cable (Gains shield when spending stamina)
- White Glass Bead (Gains shield on perfect dodge)
- Feedback Loop (Triggers AoE Shock on perfect dodge)
Relic: Tranquil Heart
- Skill Cooldown
- Shield Effectiveness
- Elemental Damage
Long Gun: Crossbow
- Mod: Voltaic Rondure
- Mutator: Spirit Feeder
Hand Gun: Enigma
- Mutator: Spellweaver (using a mod lowers skill cooldown)
Melee Weapon: Ritualist Scythe
- Mutator: Shocker
Traits (maxed unless indicated otherwise)
- Gifted, Untoucheble (Default Archetype Traits)
- Triage, Kindred, Swiftness, Fortify (Archetype Traits)
- Vigor, Endurance, Expertise (Core Traits)
- Recovery, Amplitude x 5, Siphoner x 5
The basic strategy is to use either the Way of Kaeula or a combination of your mods to set up the field (did you guys know you can attach the Enigma rods to the lightning ball? Pretty neat!) , before diving in with Worm Hole and just wreck everything with melee charge attacks.
While its by no means a face-tanking build, it has a surprising amount of durability, especially right after using Worm Hole, to the point where I've survived attacks I had no business surviving on medium armor.
I did a complete run on Root Earth with this build, and it was pretty smooth sailing. I did die a couple of times, mostly I'd say for getting too cocky or greedy on occasion. But it was one of the least troublesome encounters I've had with Venom and Anhilation.
