i myself never tested this since i have no friends on the console end
no way to confirm myself
asked around, no one answered on launch
Below this thread is one asking the same question (Name of Thread: Game Pass Cross-Platform) and one comment stuck out the most to me:
"What i Figured out is that you can Play Steam and Xbox via linked Epic Accounts but it only works if the Game Versions are the Same, Xbox tend to have a more Delayed Update Schedule then Steam or Epic Games. So if the Game Versions are Different you will get the Connection Lost Message. So basically the Game finds the Session pretty fast but is unable to Join because of the Different Game Versions. so you will get that Message because the Devs did not have the need to put a "Version Mismatch" Message because this Crossplay Method is not fully supported by the Devs. lets just hope that xbox updates will come faster because this sucks x)"
Last night one of my friends finally was able to add me through epic games and i was able to send him an invite but got an error, my best guess is the current version of the game on xbox doesnt match steam like the guy said.. wish the devs would respond with some confirmation/Clarification
Scenario:
I'm a STEAM user. (Only invite button available in friends tab - Not working)
Friends are XBOX PC GAMEPASS user. (They have 2 buttons, invite and join among user)
Friends from xbox gamepass PC, and but I bought it through steam. I went through this and still no hope...
1) Linked all xbox, steam, epic account. (friends are already showing on the list in launcher and in-game)
2) Opened all launcher (epic, steam, xbox) before launching the game
3) In FRIEND tab, I can see them online ingame, but no join option available. Only invite. When I sent them an invite, it only goes through steam inviting them to purchase.
4) Used epic launcher to invite by SHIFT+F3, can see them online, invited them, an error occurs stating ERROR: EOS_InvalidUser. - Currently stuck here as STEAM user.
I have no idea what to do next. Bought the game because of coop playing with them but no luck. Anyone can help?
Update:
Currently I have used Epic Games Website to UNLINK Steam account, and LINK it inside the game (Main menu character selection screen - There's suddenly an F button to link Epic Games Account). Haven't try it out yet with my friends if there's any hope.
now the game is here just catching digital dust
Guys, I believe the issue you're up against is different services. Steam and Gamepass PC are two different services and you cannot cross over between them. You CAN have the PC version on Xbox GP AND play with Xbox players, that is the Microsoft "service" cross-platform (machines). You cannot bridge the gap between Steam and Xbox PC's to my knowledge, always subject to someone finding a workaround, but I don't think Gearbox supports it. Account linking does not make a difference, although at some point when you CAN truly cross-platform, you will have already completed a potentially necessary step.
i find it odd the sequel wont.
