Sparkfire's main draw is it is basically the same strength as Ford shotgun with faster reload, faster fire rate, and elemental damage. And it fills a huge void in elemental applying primary weapons. It has no downsides and it'll be popular until more alternatives are introduced. It's still not the best, but it provides a lot of utility at any level of investment.
There are no other long guns with innate elemental damage OR that cause status effects with their primary fire. A lot of people are messing around with Ritualist and/or status builds since that's kinda the DLC's theme and Sparkfire is the best gun for both status builds and Ritualist.
It also looks and sounds great which will make a weapon popular in any game.
Oh buddy you've got so much left in this game to discover
While that's true, you can turn any long gun into a bleed weapon using the twisting wounds mutator.
Well, a lot of people are playing around w/ builds that stack different elements on a target to benefit from things like Ahanae Crystal.
In that case, putting fire + bleed or fire + corrosive is better economy than a weapon that only deals one element.
The challenger's starter shotgun is pretty sick. but I really like Ford's Scattergun, and the double barrel. It's a build called the Shotgun swapper, the youtuber Phemto made a video on it, and I love the playstyle personally.
