this is a trick question. its very obvious if you been playing the game.

Hunter/Gunslinger has no downsides when it comes to fighting anything. including bosses.

summoner is garbage against bosses. (see also what i said about archon)

engineer's heavy weapon has too little ammo so you spam hearts to maintain its ammo but you have to plant or stow heavy weapon. also completely dependant on skill cooldown.

archon has crazy mod power regen and mod damage buffs but too many mods either have ridiculous FF damage or just dont deal the kind of damage 1 weakspot shot deals with hugs.

its not some kind of secret. hugs requires so little investment to out do every other class in damage.

Because they're tired of seeing them? Powerful, sure...but gets boring. I want to find/build something using Invader ffs.

i use invader/handler. with spec for damage increase when enemies are not targeting me. the dog has great aggro hold.

The only class I dont care for playing with are summoners. It just happens that following one thru a dungeon you end up with their summons in your face half the time, not able to see. Its only a minor annoyance granted, but its the only class that I can nitpick anything about at all when grouping.

HUGS is best but you need to get weakspot shots and you are a wet paper towel, the combination is not very fun on normal apocalypse since you don't do that much damage without the skills.
I would recommand trying a RIGS build instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRJGPFbgg0o
For engineer you can try something called red firestarter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7BUsytpEQE
But i am really waiting for the next patch to see if they fix dots and ritualist:(

Cuz thats what humans do and how being human works. It doesnt matter if one thing is good or bad, someone will always find fault and point it out. Its just the world we live in.

In the end all boils down to the individual. As long as you enjoy your game and your enjoyment is not in the cost of others', youre fine.

To be fair, they do require an investment in time and skill in order to be used effectively; and there is a cost: they are the only two archetypes that don't provide any survivability whatsoever, and this game being what it is, that's not for everyone.

Now, I do have a HUGS build which I use fairly often, but the only reason I can make it work is because I've put almost everything else into shield-spamming, which means that I'm rather mediocre when it comes to the thing that archetype combination is supposed to excel at. On the other hand, on my current Apocalypse run, I can take a fair amount of punishment, even from bosses, and I've rarely been 1-shot, which is not bad for medium encumbrance armor.

I wouldn't hate on the build. It's just the obvious generic high dps build. Lacks creativity or charm, sure. But is also so obvious it's probably one of the first builds everyone tried to make.

i didnt at any point say they take no investment. ive also not said anything about defense. ive specifically said damage. the fact is, it takes less investment than every other damage class/combo.

no matter how tanky engineer, summoner, or challenger is, they all require heavy investment to even match hunter/gunslingers "DAMAGE".

the reason people see so many of this combination is because of how easy it is to build and play.

when all you see is this combination (like its the only one in the game), id say its time for a re-balance.

People dont hate it, its more that HUGS build is just....plain, simple and essentially boring.
Granted its one of really good builds.

Bottom line.....why would anyone care who likes / hates which builds? In the end its all personal preference to what people like to play.

Funnily enough, my own version started out as a Hunter/Medic build, which makes sense given how shield-focused it is; and I still go back to using Medic if I need added survivability or I want to share my self-healing in multiplayer.

I didn't start using Gunslinger until after I found more gear that either provided or benefited from shields, and even then, it was mostly as a way to offset the constant and slow reload speed of using double dual-action guns.

So I guess I kind of went against the trend on that one.

Well, I didn't say that you said what you didn't say either; I just had my own thing to say, even if I added it to what you said.
DoremianCleff Nov 25, 2023 @ 1:58pm
I don't think it's hated. I personally think it's just boring in terms of mechanics. My first build was fists only melee build, which got me through entierty of the game and got humbled by a final boss. And currently going through full support Alchemis\medic and getting my other archetypes the level 10.

In all build varieties, just "Gun shoot hard" is probably least interesting.

Me rocking aphelion with g-launcher as Summoner/Medic.

Having simply fun and gameplay optimized for your playstyle is best kind of fun.

Skilled Kinship just because of those. xD
As a HU-GS/HU-INV I just like staying back — lowers the target area. =P

Some people enjoy the simple things and/or non-magic stuff. =D
