Let's wait for the dlc and pray.
Maybe he went back to his wife. As a matter of fact, what happened to Root Mother ?
Root mother is dead. I guess you didn't unlock a certain gun from remnant 1
I thought we'd get to meet with Ford, given more context to the segments, see how the Root is invading other worlds, maybe building up to a final invasion of Earth or some kind of "oh ♥♥♥♥" moment, but no.
Mind you, I started on Yaesha so after the Labyrinth I got to see 0 Root until Root Earth, so that didn't help, but my general experience was like the game finally remembered what it was supposed to be about in the final act and just threw a couple wave fights and a couple bosses right at the end like a high schooler phoning their homework in 10 minutes before class. And then it's like OKAY THIS IS IT WE'RE SETTLING THIS FOR GOOD.
I played through the game a second time just in hopes that the post-credits would give something more since I skipped them the first time around, but no, it's just "nah jk". If you're going to suck the entire universe into a singularity least you can do is at least follow up with it.
I think the game is more trying to be like "the root are so big of a threat that they pose a risk to the very fabric of reality, and nothing short of resetting existance will ever hope to getting rid of them", not that they're a computer virus. Guardian talks of reality as data but I don't think the world is literally a simulation, it's just how it looks to him.
How it looks to me too when you're fighting Cancer or the last boss.
What else would you call all of that weird glitching?
I speculate, and this is pure speculation, that in this world they are just one of those things that you can't get rid of no matter what you do, so your only other option is to alter reality in such a way that they exist but without being this omnipresent corrupting threat.
You know when Guardian does that thing to you when you first met him where your character gets a headache? I think either that, your exposure to the Labyrinth, the Segments, or a combination thereof, influences the main character in a way that it starts seeing the world as data like the Guardian and Clem see it.
Ofc that's me spitballing but I don't think the glitching is meant to be taken that literally, more like we're able to see the underlying structure of reality and how the Root can tap into it if they ♥♥♥♥ things up enough.
