For handguns, the Silverback is already a good pick for it. But if you need more shots, the Service pistol is always a reliable gun for basically any build. Tech 22 is probably an odd pick but it has powerful ammo dumping capabilities.
When it works of course it is massive damage.
Personally my experience on challenger/hunter which was my starting point became much better once I bought Bonesaw machinegun.
This is exactly what happened to me. I swapped to Bonesaw too and stuck with it ever since.
Shotgun meta is a thing, but it's more useful on bosses than world mobs that fly around.
I'll sometimes swap it out for the pulse rifle or devourer if it's something that requires more finesse, but for example I did Nightweaver with pretty much only the tech-22, swapping to the bulldog to take the spiders out quick. Haven't tried the Enigma out yet but people are also very happy with it.
Unless you also have the Hunter 'Longshot' trait and that ring that extends range (Targetting Jewel or something?).
Effective range can be pretty decent.
