AOE size
I'm curious how this works. Does it apply to weapons? Like my shotgun? And if it does, how does that impact accessories that reduce spread?

AOE is Area Of Effect, such as explosions, or the radius of other effects placed on the ground like Tremor or a Medic's healing Wellspring ability.

A shotgun is not an AOE weapon. It is several non-AOE hitscan pellets in a spread.

Weapons that are, or have, AOE properties would be something like the Meridian, Star Shot, or the mod on the Sporebloom.

Tyvm! Side question! If I just went full spread reduction on weapons, would my shotgun be like a shrapnel pistol?

I'm not sure what a shrapnel pistol is, but you can get the spread down enough that even the most inaccurate weapons become pinpoint accurate, to the point that it's difficult to actually see the reticle. It's quite fun to turn shotguns into laser cannons.

Depends on the shotgun.
Each of them has different spread pattern, you can check them by shooting at wall.
For spread reduction, mostly effective for Ford Scattergun & Sporebloom. Bulldog & especially Double Barrel shotty already have tight spread

Funnily enough, don't use this trait with something like Starshot unless you want to unintentionally 1 shot yourself. Grab the Handler trait with it so you mostly survive your own explosions.

That's what I meant lol. Just full blown 100% shotgun to the face.

I am using the Bulldog. I wanna make it so the spread is even tighter.

Yeah, it's pretty fun landing an entire shotgun blast to a target's face with no damage falloff at 25m if you build it right.

Sometimes it's better to leave the spread as it is depends on your build.
When paired up with Bandit mutator, the spread will help hitting multiple enemy body parts, which result multiple instances of damages and each of damage has chance to activate the ammo regain.
Very often that I shoot many times at humanoid enemies like Drans, 3 of them, but my bulldog ammo still at 7/12.

Eh, I agree. I'm not sure what to do. I'm a pretty new player, and experimenting. On one hand, I wanna make my shotgun a nuke bc it's +10. But at the same time, I found some poison gas switch necklace that let's me aoe eveything. I swapped out my pistol for an smg bc I can aoe everything once every 3 seconds(replacing my my shotgun), so my shotgun has to replace my pistol.
