You may also take a look at the fan profile of the card, my 7900 xtx start also get hot after a driver update. AMD just messed with the Fan Profil with the update, found it not so funny,
Maybe worth a look.
The thing is the regular temp you see is the average for the entire chip, but some parts can be hotter than the other.
Nvidia at least shows GPU Hotspot. Which could def be going 120C+ while the GPU is only at 85C. This will guarantee make you crash to black screen or shutdown. And the issue does not have to appear in other games.
I've had this issue myself with a bad factory paste. And most games ran fine, Just 1 out of 20 games managed to push the hotspot past the 120C mark where it crashes. Re-pasting solved everything, but you might want to poke at warranty instead if hotspot is way too high.
So simple questions:
How does it crash? To desktop or black or does it turn off completely?
Use a tool like HWiNFO64 that can show GPU hotspot, and look at that number instead.
This is exactly my answer too. My alienware with 3090 winds up crazy loud if I dont use msi afterburner and manually set my own fan settings. Once I set them it is 3x as quiet and never gets over 74c.
buys a 3090 , then limits its temp because of not enough cooling into effectively a lower tier card. could have spend a lot less money for the same result. setting your fancurve to be quiet with a 3090 laptop while also setting avery low max temp means you propably lost 30% performance or something along those lines. maybe even more depending on your cooling performance left. i dont even wanna know how low your gpu clock runs

I've never got the above message before, I have win64 though. What do I set the fans to in MSI? Is there a spec I should look for before setting?
((FOR the record)). I just think it's getting too hot and crashes. It may not be that, so my bad on the title. I really have no idea about tech specs and such.
What do you suggest?
i know people dont want to hear this and some may refuse to accept it in this forum but the game crashing is not a user but a game problem. some people have problems and some not. sure it be adviced to make sure your pc is up to date and stuff but in the end people try alot ot fix this game by themself when in the end this is mostly useless. a perfectly setup computer wont run faulty software better, its still faulty software. and since no one here can alter the games code we only can wait for mor patches

in extrem cases where you lets say remove a gpu cooler fully while under load it can result in such low clocks from the gpu that this may cause crashes or at worse shuts down the pc
but this is not what you encounter. when a game crashes is has almost never anything to do with too high temps
your gpu is designed to run very hot. and the safeties in place make sure your gpu wont get too hot. 80-85 is for most nvidia cards perfectly fine and once they get hotter they compensate by downclocking anyways
so even if you run the game with a 30 fps cap and play on the lowest settings. you pc may be cool but the game will still for some people crash
Make sure you do all the usual like verify integrity of game and update drivers, not sure by the sound of that error that your problem is related to heat. Decompressing is a process of reducing the size of data by removing redundant or unnecessary information. Oodle is a compression algorithm that is used by Unreal Engine to compress and decompress shader code
When it comes to cooling, it depends on the fans and efficiency of your case. A good starting point that works with many rigs is to set your fan speed around 60% at 60c, 65% at 65c, 70-75% at 70c and keep stepping it up like that until it maxes at 100 around 85. Dont really want to run them at 100 but fans are cheap and vid cards are not.
Mine stays at a stable 80fps with everything graphically maxed out with a 3090 on a Aorus fo48u 4k monitor like that with temps never going over 74. Mine is set to 73%@70 and 80%@75c. I also have the side of tower off and a small amazon fan running on medium blowing on card which helps a lot and is quieter than case fans, just make sure to blow it out more often if you do that.
Dont listen to bitter trolls like this that constantly crash themselves all the time and yell at everyone who doesnt crash about how its not their rig its the game. His own post about constantly crashing and replies to people in there should tell you all you need to know about listening to this guy who is better put on ignore.
I havent crashed once in weeks and the few times I did i traced it down to a bad stick of ram that fixed all my issues when replaced. You dont need a patch to fix what isnt broken, just enough patience and common sense to track down and address the actual issue.

ignore these some more and tell people some useless advice how to fix their game because its not crashing for you. delusional people
the game even crashes on console...
