How viable is melee this time?
Is it as viable as Borderlands 3 ?

It's like The WItcher 3 melee

Iam not sure how it is on higher diffeculties because i dont think you can face tank so much so you need to be good at dodgeing (maybe you can combine challenger with medic or engineer)

It can be good, and with the right gear you can be almost impossible to kill as long as you stay fighting.
That said, some enemies and bosses won´t let you melee them at all, so no melee only.

We should able to melee hit and dodge roll like Dark Soul right ?
No face tanking needed

I am using melee a lot as handler since my goodgirl takes all the heat. It worked fine until now on veteran.

it's as good as borderlands 3. you can't survive more than 3 hits and boss' just outright one shot you.

this game has a lot of flaws and playing melee only is only for the hardcore fanboys.

otherwise, as a casual player. The netcode sucks if you join other games. dodge timing is way off and you can't really tell when to dodge if the connection is fluctuating.

The Invader archetype and Nightshade weapon look like they could make for a pretty good evasive melee build, combine it with challenger or handler maybe with the dog tank.

I think that the game is not meant to be "melee only" or "ranged only", but rather a mix of them, like the previous one.

Ofc, at some point ( powercreep ) you can push towards melee or ranged ( as well as any specific build ) making things easier, but this doesn't mean you are supposed to only melee or only ranged.

Plus, but this is just my own judgement, making a melee only character would end up being boring pretty fast, as you can only autoattack, heavy blow or charge blow, while using a melee alternately to ranged weapons fits very well.

ps: there are also flying enemies you'll have to deal with.
you can equip rings and an amulet to make a melee build yes. most of the time however your going to be using your guns because the flying enemies/bosses the game has you have no way of even touching them unless you have a melee weapon that has a ranged attack. but at that point why are you not just using a gun if your forced to use a ranged attack for a melee weapon

Damage wise, not bad damage output at all. But even with the vampiric and sustain from life leech you get slapped if you aren't careful, not advised to run melee against enemies that have ranged weapons. And there are some where if you melee you're gonna get blown up.

I'd say use melee sparingly. It seems like the challenger has weapons with good kickback. The magnum type gun can knock people over, same with the shotgun. Its during those knockdowns I'd recommend melee.

Against bosses, you only use it when your comfortable with their attack pattern. Only use it when the boss has a bit of recovery from their last move.

I don't know if the weapon mod that causes SLOW works on bosses, yet to try it out. I use SLOW on elite enemies.

It's probably best to use medium to light armor if you have to avoid attacks combo attacks. For example you may be able to dodge attacks 1 and 2, strike in-between 3 and dodge etc.

You'll want increased stamina recovery equipment if you plan to fight that way. Also the more stamina you give yourself the better.
