Early game: Bonesaw, MP60-R
Mid game: Merciless, Enigma, Spectral Blade
Late game: Nightfall, Enigma, Assassin's Dagger
I also played around a lot with the elemental weapons -- Hellfire, Meridian, Nebula, etc.
Although my favorite exploring set-up was to use the Toxic Release Valve, Enigma, and Merciless with Twisting Wounds. This way you can stack corrosion, bleed, and shock on enemies. Combined with the Timekeeper's Jewel (extend status effects), Alumni Ring (10% elemental damage), Grounding/Acid Stone, and Low Yield Recovery Ring you can just run around crop dusting enemies as they chase you. It also has a built in stagger for most enemies. Even if they hit you you're killing things so fast you have permanent health regeneration applied via Low Yield. And, if you want to farm enemies like in the Hatchery it's super easy to gain experience.
This also allowed me to quickly re-roll Adventure mode to find specific items or farm trait points. It's pretty viable through Nightmare, but not so much on Apocalypse unless you're really good at dodging and know exactly where you need to go.
Finally, if you max out Amplifier (50% AOE) you can pretty much hit things 15-20 feet away from you, through walls, in the air, below you, etc. Combine that with Traits and concoctions that increase your movement speed nothing can really hurt you.
For bosses, I focused on trying to kill them in one shot with Nightfall, Gunner/Hunter skills, Ankh of Power, and anything that increased critical hit rate, critical damage, and weak point damage.
but i have been liking the double barrel with bandit for a secondary now tho
and for melee its quite a toss up melee kinda feels bad in remnant 2 so i mostly just never use it outside of oh ♥♥♥♥ very close range or when really low on ammo and havent had time to box up.
but pretty much all the basic sword styles i like to use as well as spears sometimes. mostly depends what kind of aesthetic im going for.
aesthetics are what i mostly go for so i use pretty non-meta weapons. i also like to switch things up from time to time or if a boss really needs a certain counter but i always go back to my main loadout.
As a secondary I use the Labyrinth smg, cause it has infinite ammo.
The engineer pairs well with the challenger, found that out by accident. Basically stacking resistances to just be a bulwark but I rarely melee.
I was really enjoying the shotgun and silverback revolver only changed because I got new weapons.
Sagi is cool but the mod is (mostly) less than useless. It's "okay" sometimes, but there's almost never a time when just lining up another headshot isn't the right decision.
