i know you could modify the character after creation in the first game by changing some values in the save file which was quite tedious and required some third party tool, good chance same solution wont work with this game tho, save files seem different

Tbh I think the character creator seems very lackluster compared to how amazing the world and enemies look. Definitely feel like they didn't put as much effort in to the player character as other stuff. I agree that that player isn't the main focus but I also think it would be nice to have more options than the first game, or at least better options than the first game; for instance, the longer hairstyles look much worse in this game than the first, especially the ponytail. It wouldn't be very hard to add the hairstyles from the various npcs as options as well as a few more faces and skin colors as it looks like all the faces use the same animations. They could even add a barber in Ward 13 that can let you change appearance and sell accessories/transmogs.
I think it's important to remember that they do have an option to turn off your helmet so they did know some players would want to see their hair/face. Just because some people don't care about their appearance doesn't mean it's fair to stop other people from having the option.

I never wear helmets. Character customization in Remnant 2 is a let down.
