Any tips for someone playing a Remnant game for the first time?
I'm not interested in anyone telling me to stay away because of "woke" culture. Saving someone's life can be considered a favor for trade in the apocalypse and saying someone's ethnicity, race, or otherwise is a descriptor. Saying "Old white dude" in a story when you don't want to mention their name yet tells you that the person is white. That's it.

What are some things people can recommend when it comes to the game? I'm interested in trying to get summoner. But I wasn't sure if there was something else I'd really need scrap for. Is there a good class to start with to pair with summoner? Is there a scythe in this game? I saw there was in the first game. I like the mechanics of this game though. If I end up enjoying it enough I'll go back to the first. Just anything anyone can think of that might help me, and another friend new to the franchise maybe end up having a little bit of an easier time? I've seen some videos. But I'd like to learn some things from people who played the first and might know something that correlates with this game.

I'm gonna bump this once in an attempt to start an honest conversation about the game. Seems everything else is drowning it out currently. In the event it doesn't work guess I'm back to looking for videos. Lol.

Hello, I have remnant from the ashes almost 100% completed on this acc (100% across multiple characters/accounts) so I'll just hit you with the cold water:

This game wants to hurt you and it will do so. If you are new, it is going to hurt you. The game takes pleasure in hurting you and you will like it.

Jokes aside, a big thing that will immediately get you ahead is learning enemies and their animations. Most enemies in these games have some form of windup before they do an attack, with even gunners oftentimes announcing their presence via audio cues before they strike.

If you hear a loud noise, an elite probably spawned. Be careful.

Stunning enemies is a huge part of the game - do not forsake fast-firing weapons just because their dps per shot may look lower, they can also oftentimes apply certain debuffs faster.

Explore. Explore. Explore. You want rings, amulets, armor, etc ASAP. More options, more versatility. You want it.

There are puzzles in this game, and they do require some forethought. My group got stuck on one for about 15 minutes.

This game LOVES hiding things in plain sight. Inspect every item you get.

Do not be afraid to try new builds and mix and match things. Build variety is a huge allure in remnant.

Multiplayer makes the game a little easier but on harder difficulties like nightmare/apoc the game will still absolutely annihilate most groups.

Note: In the first game, upgrading actually made progressing HARDER in a lot of situations later down the line due to the way enemy scaling worked. I have 0 idea how upgrading works in remnant 2. It may be similar. Worlds, when they generate, are at your current "level." So upgrading will make that current world easier. But the next will (might in remnant 2) generate at a higher level...and that used to include gear upgrades. Be aware. And I do not know if this is the case here, but it was the case in the first game.

Second Note: Do not be afraid to die, in this game it is almost always a learning experience.

Third Note: The most dangerous thing about root rot is your coughing animation. You'll understand what that means when you get it.

Honestly, the game's pretty new, and so procedurally generated that it's hard to give solid advice sometimes. So I'll just say that there's a lot of secrets, and multiple outcomes to a lot of encounters. There's definitely more than meets the eye with a lot of the content in the game. Being observant and giving some things a second thought will serve you well.

Oh! Thanks for the reply :) I did have a few questions about the three quoted things, if I did this right. Do you know if mobs drop armor or is it chest specific? I've seen videos of many people finding rings on ground. Amulets seem to be from events and vendors I guess o.o

If mixing and matching is the name of the game I definitely will. Is there any class that might be more beginner friendly? Been thinking bout the melee class with the chainsaw sword, medic, or the handler with doggo. I don't know much about the classes or how they might have worked in the first game. I think only handler wasn't in that one.

I'm sure me and my friend that's coming along for the ride will find ways to get ourselves killed regardless XD But we want to learn and the game looks very fun.

I do have one question that you didn't talk about. Do you know if the game might have a scythe? My seeing that the first game had one was a big reason for me trying this out other than it looking fun. It's my favorite fantasy weapon and I try out pretty much any game with one in it.

:) This is helpful too. At this point I'd just like to amass knowledge. I know some of the systems and items from the first game had made their way here. So I was just hoping to find some people who might be able to tell me if stuff from there might be in this too. I can't be the only person watching vids either xD I just don't have the time to scan everything.

Remnant 1 had MULTIPLE scythe-like weapons, including a life-leeching one. I'd be surprised if this one didn't as well? They're one-handed though, not two-handed. Like a hand sickle. But there may be a full-sized scythe in this game as there seems to be a LOT more weapons.

For solo play I would go with handler - the dog can literally revive you AND TEAMMATES. In fact it's almost a better support then the actual support class is because of just how versatile the dog is. The medic is great at healing, but the dog does basically everything else - including easily reviving people if you have dragonhearts and you mark them.

(Hit q on a downed teammate and the dog will go to revive them.)

The problem with this sort of game is unless you're used to it, everything is goign to seem punishing. I played about 250 hours of the first game and even I died about 4-ish times in my 3 hours of play to normal enemies, haven't even done a boss yet because we were just seeing everyone's generated worlds (All 3 of us rolled COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CAMPAIGNS as the campaigns are somewhat RNG/randomly generated.)

I've been asked about the mob drops onstream a couple times - usually mobs just drop upgrade materials, whereas really important pieces of loot like armor, weapons, etc are hidden behind bosses or puzzles. But remnant 2 may do something different late game that I'm unaware of. I'm mostly speaking on my remnant 1 experience as I only have about 3 1/2 hours in 2 so far, but things are VERY similar in a lot of regards.

Well darn. I do hope there is a 2-h scythe. Too many games give out the dinky one handers and call them such xD

I will give handler some serious consideration. Thanks for the info on it. My reasoning for wanting to go it was literally "can pet doggo"

I'm hoping my time in Elden ring and a couple other souls-likes will help me through. I've not finished one yet though xD Hope this will be the first. I wasn't aware this game was going to come out until a couple days ago. Felt like it shadow dropped on me. Kind of a blessing! Been hyped to play since.

Shoot the bad guys, dont die, bring friends. If you wanna play solo, pick class with a dog.

Remnant (in my humble opinion) is far more enjoyable then most other soulslikes because while it's incredibly punishing on high difficulties you yourself as a character still FEEL powerful. You might die in 1-2 hits if you play wrong, but you have a huge arsenal of tools at your disposal.

And again the maps are all randomly generated from a set of tiles, so replayability is massive.

Also regarding remnant-exclusive things, I cannot stress enough how dangerous the cough from root rot is for new players. It interrupts healing, reloading, moving, etc, and the only way to get out of it is to use stamina to roll.

Make sure you have the proper consumables to counter stuff like this.

Lol. xD This is fair. This is what I asked for technically.

You already stirred the hornet's nest with that woke, or non woke crap, i'm done with the first planet, but after that should i even bother with this thread? Seems like a bait for a flame war but done in a sneaky way.

Should be obvious though, the character slows down, a big skull meter starts going up and you start losing hp. After the first encounter with it, if a player doesn't realize that they should ignore it, they will have huge issues while playing this game...or any game as rude as that sounds.

At the bottom of your screen will be a bar that shows "root rot" when you're infected with it. Once you're fully infected, you begin coughing and you lose like 25% of your stamina. (or something like that?) And lose hp slowly.

A lot of people do not understand the danger that comes with that cough because of how much it interrupts. The stamina loss sucks, but the cough interrupts everything and a lot of "root" enemies (they look like wood and normally have a red-brown color scheme) can inflict it.

This is actually a mechanic from the first game I feel doesn't get talked about enough, because on the surface root rot doesn't seem that bad (wow 25% stamina loss bug woop) until you're mid boss fight with no way to cure it and you can't revive allies because it keeps interrupting you.
