32 is the new middle of the road.
In the real world,16 Gb is enough for 1080p
Devs ask for 16 because of 8 is not enough and you are "forced" to have either 2,4,8,16,32,64,128 Gb so that's the only reason.
not really, most games ask for 16 now n days and most prebuilt comps come with at least 16 if not usually 32.
just because your mad that your computer might not be able to handle it doesnt dismiss the facts of modern computers
Baldur's Gate is also a wildly different game in pacing and processing power needed at any point of the game compared to a 3rd person shooter with enemy density just way higher than BG3.
That's why it's in the recommended section and not in the minimal. Btw in DCS and FS you can feel/see the difference.
Played plenty of newer games which have min and max ram recommend to 16GB and never ran out of RAM so far while gaming in 1080p. It becomes an issue if you're gaming in 4K though, then you will need 32GB to be safe. in 1440p it can depend on the game but i heard 1440p folk have been fairly fine with 16GB of RAM still, it's just 4K where it's not viable anymore at all.
The last thing you said is not true, I've had 24 and 48 gig setups before. But also any new games coming out need more than 16 to run efficiently, even at 1080p unless you keep key settings like textures and stuff on low.
Like A Dragon Isshin
Shadows Of Doubt:
Starship Troopers: Extermination
Star Wars Jedi Survivor
Sifu
Deceive Inc
Spider-Man Miles Morales
All games that came out in the last year, and most of them came out in the last 6 months. None of them require 16 gigs. The closest any even come is ST:E requiring 12gigs (which fun fact: it doesn't even use 12 it uses about 10)
And I've played all of these and can confirm you do not even get close to running out of 16Gb, even in Spider-man with all it's got goin on.
BUT the guy they corrected was wrong too because you can indeed have any combination of that 2,4,8,16,32, etc.
For example 2x8Gb sticks and 2x4Gb sticks is 24Gb. As long as your dual channels match, you're fine
