Remove Auto-Jump and Auto-Climb
Neither of these automatic mechanics makes sense in a game that is non-casual in most other ways. The amount of times the character either climbs ladders without being instructed to, or even jumps to its death, is irksome and has not place in a game where the player's actions need to be spot-on most of the time.

Remove auto-anything and/or provide and option for manual interactions. Remnant II needs no "Modern" controls.

There is no auto-jump...if you fall off a cliff it's 100% on you.

Not "fall off". If one rolls near a cliff, the character JUMPS off. I had it happen not an hour ago in Yaesh, as I was rolling to dodge the elite archer's lightning magic -- the character was rolling more or less parallel with the precipice, and decide to exit mid-roll, and YIPPIE-KAI-YAY, MUFFA FLOCKERS!! off into the abyssal unknown... 🤨

As for the ladders, there is no point elaborating, as everyone has certainly had their character climb without them actually wanting them to climb... Either way, why cannot we have full control of our character's actions? This isn't Street Fighter 6, and no one wants disability aids in a game like Remnant...

Because there are no invisible walls which means you can fall off / roll off islands and platforms. That is simply how it is, if it happens it means you had poor judgement in deciding where to roll and had no map / position awareness of your own. thats not a game issue, thats you.

As for ladders....if you do not want to climb a ladder why are you approaching it to begin with? If you do not approach it, the character will not climb it. Considering nearly everywhere you can just jump off instead of climbing down and you dont climb up automatically unless you really want to and head for a ladder.

I would say have more awareness of where you are and what you are doing.

This game is designed for consoles so I doubt they will change this. If anyone wants any changes, they will have to filter it past those consoles cause that is this studios primary goal. It be nice to have a different version made for the PC specifically, but it costs money and ya...they like money..a lot. Just how it is man :/

And i agree, the controls are a bit garbage. The ladders are also very lazy done as far as how you interact with it.

Agree 100%.

Using the same input key for jump and dodge is a horrible design decision that only exists because of the limits to input sources on a console controller. Also not a fan of the animation locks when you touch a ladder, they can be quite irritating.

I REALLY wish they would change crap like this in ports instead of ignoring it.

Agreed! Very poor desigion. It make a distraction and not helping at all!

I completely disagree with this. Like... firstly, if your character is triggering the jump animation, you were going to fall off anyway. This post would change into "controls suck, no guardrails too many places to fall"

Second, I genuinely like the auto jump as far as world design goes. We don't have a pointless jump, and the distance is predetermined so there is no chance of missing a jump that youre intended to make. I can understand just not liking the design of it, but blaming your deaths on it is more than likely not the case. Youre just rolling off ledges my dude.

I don't understand the ladder argument at all, so no comment there. automatically climbing a ladder is far more common than a dedicated interact with it in most games.

110 hours in and never had any of these issues never one rolled torwards a cliff and jumped ( that on you, you were too close) and never once have i had my guy climb a ladder when i didnt what him too this sounds like a just you problem bud

people that believe the auto-climb mechanic is working as intented don't know what they're talking about. This issue is around since the Subject 2923 DLC. In intense boss fights where you are required to dodge and evade with the dodge button, your character decides to jump off to death by vaulting over an obstacle on its own. This game has obstacles in almost every boss fight, and you have to constantly dodge and evade. It is a problem.

Hot Take but I love the auto-jumping and grabbing in this game XD.
LaughingMute Aug 15, 2023 @ 10:47pm
Using consoles as an excuse for the auto climb feature is a really lazy argument. There are plenty of console games that require an input before ascending or descending a ladder. With out the input, depending on game, you either stay at the top or fall/jump off.

Easy fix, making it so camera forward facing rolls will trigger a jump, but if you are not facing the edge with your camera you will not jump and will simply roll (sideways or bacjwards).

The same goes for vaulting, if its not a forward action with the camera, you should not vault a fence into the abyss.

if you jumped off a cliff, you would have rolled off the same cliff regardless.
Shoah Kahn Aug 16, 2023 @ 12:49am
^ Not if the character has a momentary "teeter" before falling -- that would given players (with the presence of mind and reflexes) a few frames to "catch" themselves... And your statement mischaracterises what happened to me: I was rolling parallel too a precipice, and then the character, mid-roll, turned / "blinked" 90 degrees towards the abyss and jumped off -- all in the same animation sequence.

I feel at ease with roll jump ( it makes puzzles and roaming easy and unable to fail, regardless your stamina).

It might be annoying at first for ladders, but after you know that the character automatically uses the ladder if in front of it, one can simply avoid it.

It's no different from evading an aoe or jumping over a hole. If the player keep deliberately go inside an aoe or fall into a hole well.... I don't feel the right to call it a game issue.
