it is designed for coop tho.
If you stop then you die. The puzzle is designed to have the player commit to following through. Not stall and hesitate. As long as you keep moving then you can get through it without getting hit. it's actually pretty easy. I died the first time because I was going slow. When I commited 100% to not stopping I made it without problem.
He can't, it's a coop challenge, you need one person to go through the saws, and another to open the passage for them.
But the maze in the same area is possible single player. I did all these yesterday.
Didn't you need another player to open the door to even get there?
Only way I was able to do it was with a friend and having one of us stand on the pad in the middle to keep the door open.
But as aside the reward is useless to you if your don't play co-op anyways
