How impossibly rare is Hardened Iron?

At the Final fight and only have 2, can't even do a single upgrade past 15, decided I'd try to farm for some but everything BUT this drops, does the game not realize I'm in an area that should be dropping the final ore?

when you hit like 15-17 Gearscore it will start showing up

They are literally everywhere for me. I have over 200 without even trying.
Also check Cass, she sells them from time to time.

Same system as in remnant 1, it gives you what you "need".

Let me explain the system.
If you only have 1 pistol, 1 long gun etc at 15+ the game will give you a lot of hardened iron.
If you have a lot of lower level gear the game will give you a lot of lower tier materials too instead and you get way less hardened iron.

But you do not need +20 weapons for the final fight, i started getting hardened once i started playing nightmare adventure after the story ended.

Your gear score also influences drops. At 20, you will get only hardened and very rarely low tier ones.

They are not limited to last area only,
they drop from every area, its just not super common as they share the same pool as iron, forged iron and galvanized iron too and it also depends on your overall power level

Well power level 16 atm, THINK I got the 2 from a boss or chest near one, can't really remember where.

maxing two archetypes should help you out even more, and ofc maxing your weapons as good as you can

That seems insanely wrong, BOTH of my guns are 15, they were when I went into the RE, NO hardened have dropped except once.

Do you have guns in your inventory that are not near 15? Is your power level 16-17 at least?

aso, i think rerolling campaign or adventure should help out more too since it will reset loot pools, although unless you have not yet to beat final boss, then rerolling adventure mode would be far more easier and convinient

I level my guns when i was able. ended first game with +19 + 19 + 20 weapon load out. and plenty of all mats. but i did notice that most of my mats are from partly hidden areas, or at an angle you will only see it from one direction. So i had to "look" to find the mats, they where not always in plain sight. but the mats levels with the needs of my gun level.

Also keep in mind, you do not need to max out your weapons on your first playthrough, especially if you are on survivor or veteran.

upgrade all your weapons (one for each slot) to 15, itll show up much more often.

Not very, the opposite problem kicks in. When you reach higher levels the lower quality irons will show up less frequently meaning you have to go to Cass to buy it instead.

Both of my used guns are 15, working to get the sword up but the game has been insanely stingy with the ore I need, like I said, only 2 have dropped.

you going to get too many harden iron at some point, i was at 1k and i start selling and buying iron and forged iron since those you can only buy when ur powerlv only drops harden
