I also use the Krell axe, it's pretty strong.
Service pistol is the gold standard of pistols. It's in the sweet spot of damage, fire rate, ammo, reload and accuracy.
I defo recommend a corrosive tommygun try out, its fun.
For handguns I usually stick with either the Tech 22 or the MP60-R
I use gunslinger as a main, which means ammo is not an issue (ran through all 150 bullets? Just use the gunslinger skill and get ammo back xD), and the second archetype can be anything really, but I had most success with hunter (higher dmg) and invader (more mobility and the OP dodge skill).
So momentum is amazing, basically if you hit a critical, you gain 6% more crit chance and crit dmg for 5 seconds, up to 30% more crit chance and crit dmg (at 10 stacks, but at max lvl you get 2 stacks per crit, hence why I said 6%).
Couple this with a few ranged dmg and crit chance relic fragments, and you're essentially always critting.
With this build I have a 1k-1.1k dps for body shots, and a 2k-2.1k weakspot dps. If I use hunter's mark and hot shot or corrosive bullets, my dps goes into the 3k-3.2k range.
Most I did was ~4k with buffs from friends.
Nevermind, I just tried bulletstorm + hunter's focus + corrosive rounds and did 5k DPS with the LMG without having friends to buff me xD
Could probably get to well over 5k, maybe even 6k with the alchemist frenzy buff, archon dmg zone and attack dog howl!
98% is a brutal overstatement, you only need to beat hardcore on veteran, that difficulty isn't that punishing.
The repeater pistol is bae for secondarys as is the starshot
in the end it's more about preference than anything, they all basically do the job.
I recommend starting an explorer (or hunting down Ford's shotgun in your existing character) that shotgun is a lot of fun.
I would recommend picking your weapons based on the kind of playstyle you actually enjoy. With a few exceptions, most weapons in this game are fairly evenly balanced, so you'll rarely find yourself missing out. I guess unless you're ultra-competitive or want super-high performance for the broken higher difficulty settings...
I'm a machinegunner at heart, so I fell in love with the Bonesaw LMG. Used the Tommygun extensively in the old game, but this feels even better. There are a few alternatives to it, but I really enjoyed the Plasma Cutter. Slightly smaller magazine, but it looks so cool :)
I can't speak to other playstyles, but there are plenty of sniping weapons, rushdown shotguns, a lot of decent melee weapons and a few out-there oddball guns like the Enigma.
I get picking weapons because they're powerful, but I've found that to be a hollow experience in the long run. Unless you actually have fun with the tools you're using, the game is going to turn into a boring grind before long.
