At least with Yaesha you know for certain what's left to explore. In N'erud, it can be difficult to tell what's unexplored. Fog of war on all of the map edges drive me insane.
The explorable map also isn't a perfect square, so it can spawn explorable terrain to the north of impassable terrain, and I'm never 100% sure where that explorable terrain can begin.
It was pretty funny looking like a cowboy in a sci-fi ruins.
Also has pretty awesome secrets. I mean the thing with the pod surprised me heavily. Getting the void heart also was hella awesome.
Gameplay-wise, I don't really see what the issue is. The enemies are predominantly ranged, but this is a ranged combat game so I'm fine with it. The zombies are pretty simple to fight in melee, though. Dodge their attack in place, counter-attack. Sure, it doesn't work as well when there are many of them, but it's not like the game has a dearth of AoE options.
Rhom was my favourite zone from the old game. N'erud managed to beat it for concept, in my mind.
