Update redownloading the entire game?

So I saw there was a new update. One that was supposedly 4.5 gb. Only in my case it has started to download the entire game again. Almost 70 gb of patching. Anyone else here in the same boat?

It didn't download the whole game, it was processing files. Not sure why it needs to process 70gb worth of files for a 3gb update but....hey

its just going thru the 70gb replacing the files. it isnt redownloading the whole game.

Try restart steam and verify the files.

Yeah, it's taking about the same amount of time to patch as it did to download the game. Absolutely annoying IMO.

Same. When it finally downloaded everything it wouldn't install.

It depends on how developers set things up, but I suspect it's an archived way of storing the game.

To reduce download sizes, at the cost of having to unpack, patch and re-pack the game each time an update comes out. New World does this as well I believe.

I thought that too, but my network graph is showing activity that would indicate it is indeed downloading the entire game again.

You're going to have to uninstall and reinstall. It sucks but that's what I had to do. Worse/best part? Uninstalling and reinstalling is faster then letting it patch itself and troubleshooting why it won't finish. 30+ minutes trouble shooting versus 15 mins to download and install.

I don't know who to blame for this dumbassery: The devs or Steam.

Mine got stuck in there even on an SSD, even restarting steam didnt fix it. This happened AFTER wirtting into disk
