Armor
I think eliminating the perk system for armor was a good idea as the Dev's intended as it eliminated having to essentially stick to one armor and get the maximum amount out of a build because of it.

However, I think armor has taken a major step back from where it could truly shine. Because it only serves two types of functions at this point: cosmetic and protection - and protection being a bit of a lackluster case because enemies general and boss wise can still hit you like a truck whether your decked in full plate armor or light armor. The only difference between the two is really a matter of do I die in one hit or two?

Sure, there is the engineer's trait which lets you make your armor more chonky and the challenger who can remove the weight, but even then I feel like armor does very little aside from outfitting your weight class and making your character look good.

I think armor can really benefit from a serious overhaul, and while bringing back perks may not be a good idea I think at the very least there should be a way to upgrade or modify your armor in some capacity so that it becomes more contemporary and outfits your character. One such way might be some modifications or 'armor layers' which has been in some games. Basically little patches or modifications that give little bonuses to your armor like extra reload speed, bonus ammo capacity, more armor etc.

While I LOVE what Remnant 2 has become it does have some major shortcomings in some departments, and I feel like armor really needs some form of overhaul or spice up. They stress that modification and build crafting is one of the biggest things for this game, and I think one of the best ways you can do it goes just beyond what your shooting and what skills your bringing - I think what your wearing should also do more than just that

I'm loving the armor. I've been face tanking through bosses one after another almost entirely melee, minus flying bastards who i have to shotgun down.

Was it a good idea? I don't care at all when I find a set of armor now. When I found a set of armor in a trap/puzzle dungeon on Yaesha, I felt like I had wasted my time. I've been using the exact same armor since the start of the game, because it doesn't really matter. They took away the set bonuses that made armor matter from the first game and they replaced it with nothing. This was not an improvement, sometimes good devs have bad ideas. It's ok to admit it.

I have the heaviest armor in the game, plus engineer, plus damage mitigation itemization, plus shield generation on melee hits.

With challenger and plenty of life steal and life steal relic I am very nearly unkillable if I can reach something.

You really can become a massive tank in this game but you have to spec into it. I have 260 armor and climbing.

I run like a sack race and I dodge like a fat man falling over a curb but I can solo any boss that's on the ground.

So point is, yes. Defense doesn't come easy. You can get it, but you spec into it - like everything else.

I never said armor wasn't effective, and I don't think OP was trying to say that either.

I liked the bonus effect of armors in the first game, but it was heavily unbalanced.
But the fact it works as % damage reduction seems pretty good (compared to a certain game...)
