Story progression translates to rewards for completing things.
The important things are all the gears and trait you unlock, and those are obtained by all players in the lobby.
Does Remnant 2 not have a story that you progress through? Be it random maps or not?
If yes, then the objective can be completed on any of the random maps presented in the host's game, which also means it could be done in my game world as well because we have the same game with the same set amount of assets that build those random maps = should be able to save the objective checkmark.
When you play the campaign, the game picks one of the world and generates a playthrough.
Then you go from world to world until you reach the end.
All of the things you will find can be found in another player's campaign or in adventure mode (which is basically "just play one world")
What I mean is, there is no such thing as "story progression". It's not like characters evolve or you obtain things that will stay permanently attached to your world.
Each campaign is meant to be completed and then reset.
Which means it doesn't really matter.
I have my character, some friends come into my campaign and help me out. They get gears, and later on they'll play their own campaign and find other challenges that will give them other gears.
You can just play on your friend's game and play you're own game and you'll have different dungeons and maybe a different boss for the same world.
The friends i played with all had to make their own campaigns in order to progress without me.
Except in remnant 1 it matters because you unlock 1 NPC and 1 very important consummable through the campaign that will stay in your HUB.
