Devs, please remove host AI focus...
All is in the title, we just stopped to play at the moment because of insane host being focused by elite and bosses. I mean, the elites and bosses never stop to focus the host of the party until he's dead. That's stupid and boring.
We have tested this during alsmot 8 hours in duo coop it happens in every single fight.
Tested on steam after official release.

I host all the time and I do not get hard targeted unless I am right on top of the elite.
Im having this problem too, I believe they target the person doing the most DPS

That's exactly how it works. Threat is based on DPS.

It is kind of a pain but it makes sense, as a light armor character it works well. But the final boss seems to target on health not dps
Threat is 100% not based on dps. It can't be for the simple fact that I just fought ravager with a buddy who walked into the fight fired 1 shot, got aggro and then didn't shoot more then 20 times in the fight while he ran and tried to stay alive. Meanwhile I drained the bosses health and barely had to move for the whole fight.

No idea what actually causes bosses/elites to lock on to people but, sometimes it really makes the game insanely easy.
agro is dps based

You just got lucky!
It doesn't appear to be solely damage based, there may be a set distance in which the boss will bother chasing another player as well.

Playing with a friend I can shoot the boss once and simply remain in melee range and it won't stop attacking me (not as host). You can also bug bosses using assassin's seal, and make them switch off of you after activating hunter's shroud.

No clue how awareness comes into play there.

I have this bloody aggro rng in monster hunter when im playing with my friend. they target me 95% of the time and 5% on him....
Its annoying as hell, since it has become such an annoyance for both of us, it has become a meme between us :P

Unless the Dog companion transfers Threat to the user, it's broken or not DPS based.

I'm inclined to the former:
The Faelin boss was entirely focusing on me (host) while I was running around and not engaging him while simultaneously my friend was constantly shooting on the boss
The boss stay aggro'd on my dead body, so my friend was just avoiding the passive AoE and kept shooting, let alone that my friends class beats me on DPS as is.

So who knows, some attacks are switching randomly based on the boss (as again, my DPS is lower than my friend's).
