By being creative in obtaining him. You can always backup your save jsut before and if you die restore it and try again.
that the neat part you don't

Play co op, let a friend find it and die, then use the crystal. --- Alchemist on the other hand.....

You can probably get engineer if you don't go for the armor and the class item at the same time.
If you constantly roll while in the toxin, you won't trigger the cough animation until you land on the ground after performing a jump. Just make sure you have light weight for the fast roll and probably movement speed bonuses would help as well.

Explorer move speed buff (both active and passive) + handler passive buff + movement rings, maybe? You can get pretty speedy if you do it right.

You need to roll to get it anyways or not?
Because of the coughing, if not then this would be the only way to get it without dying or starting with it.

I also forgot that healer doggo has a move speed buff. Bet that + explorer's buff makes you EXTRA zoomy.

you start with it, its a great start anyway. They said they are working on stuff like this.
Curently the engineer is the best equiped character, with very hard to get weapons

If you have unlocked an archetype on any other character, you can choose to start with said unlocked archetypes on a new character. This applies to hardcore too, so if you have engineer on your main character you can just create an engineer new hardcore character.

If your first playthrough is hardcore, your best bet is getting someone in multiplayer to maybe help get it or get a lot of stamina and light roll through if you can since the status doesn't affect you (slow you down) while you keep rolling.

Hard to argue with this but archon is a great start too, and even comes with some amazing armor (almost 1:2 weight to armor ratio) and enigma as the default handgun.

Nothing does, but there's an helm ring combination that makes you immune to status effects, I haven't tried it out yet

You can unlock archtypes for the new characters. Then just make an engineer.

there is a ring called "hex ward" which prevents curse blight. cant remember where to get it tho. you cant also try the prufied salve consumable, it cures curse blight and gives +25 resistance to it.

dont know how well it works with the map boundaries tho.

nvm, it doesnt work.

Okay, I spent a few hours backing up and reloading save files for a HC attempt at this. It is possible with strictly zero encumbrance and sheer will power. I stepped in and triggered a caught. Then moved back till the debuff faded and just rolled to the device, no armor, and coughed on landing. Then rolled to the ledge back up. Cough after you get back up. Then roll to safety. I made it with like half a second left to death. So with speed things it's likely be much easier. But you can do it with nothing but determination.
