Or just get better. XD Friends and I have had zero issues with any bosses so far.
Anyways, you can to an extent. Once you enter an area its locked at that power level, so if you go and level up your class and upgrade your weapons, it'll still be the lower power level while you have buffed up some. If you need better gear/lvl up ect, try adventure mode on various places.
Ah, so this game scales to your level, meaning only skill matters? If so, I get why lots of gamers love that - makes them feel awesome - not for me though. I'm cool with challenge, but I also love getting more powerful as I go. I'll keep plugging away at it I guess. If this is only like the 2nd or 3rd boss of the game, I suspect I'll be putting this down quickly. :(
I guess I don't understand what a "build" looks like in this game as there truly is no tutorial into the progression systems whatsoever.
Is this a game where I can get an epic gun drop, or do I just continually improve my starter gun? Or are weapons only crafted from boss parts, like monster hunter?
Are trait points gained from just killing mobs? I only seem to have a few trait "cards," I'm assuming there are more, do those come from levels?
Is "power level" my gear score, or is that my character level?
Just some of the many questions I have. Thanks everyone!
power level is an average of many things.
Build is the sum of your classes, gear, traits.
Weapons don't drop from enemies directly. Weapons and armor come from finding them in the world or crafting them with items you find or get from bosses. Some are hidden behind puzzles, some are just in the open, and some just require a lot of looking around to find them.
Train points come from the blue books you find and beating bosses. Thats it. Leveling up DOES add a trait point to your prime trait on your classes, but thats it. After 10 trait points found you can equip 2 classes and use a skill from both, all the perks but the prime perk from your 2nd classes. My character, for example, has Gunsling and Engineer.
Power level is raised according to your Archetype level, weapon levels and I believe trait points. Its the average I think. A higher power level means tougher enemies and each zone you go into will always be one level over you. But if you go into a zone early (like I did when unlocking the new worlds) it will STAY at that level. So my PL 11 character is currently on a PL7 world cause I went there earlier. But every zone after that first one will scale to my level.
One of the best setups ive personally used to beat annoying bosses is gunslinger+invader as the invaders "auto dodge" skill can be super helpful and can allow you to learn some of the mechanics of the fight, without getting punished too hard for missing a dodge here and there.
Its not going to necessarily be something like borderlands however, where you can just mega farm or do all the side quests and then go back and destroy the same boss. However, if this IS something youre looking for, you can use gunslinger+hunter for a straight up DPS build and you can definitely melt most bosses in lower difficulties as long as you can consistently hit weakspots/crits, but you will be extremely squishy and will find you get a bit more punished when/if you do get hit.
The best advice I could offer in general is to experiment with your archetype combinations as you may find that the right combo can make a fight A LOT easier.
Most of the things that will help you kill a boss are dropped by bosses, so the only way you're going to get mods that better exploit a bosses nature only come from killing bosses.
There's not really a backtrack and keep getting stronger then coming back later. You either learn the fights or you don't.
Oh, I didn't know the map level is locked once you enter it! This is good to know! Thanks!
You should be able to max out all the mods and weapons for that level through grinding and buying iron for upgrades for weapons.
when you first enter a zone, it will be your power level +1, you are free to grind or level up higher than that to make it through the zone with a small boost to defense and damage for being a higher level, be warned you cap at 20.
you can get epic guns, but not in the rarity sense, bosses will drop materials to craft boss weapons, and there's some firearms hidden around the world, brabus also sells the other starter weapons.
some are better than others.
trait points come from picking up mysterious tomes (the blue items), beating bosses, getting 10 trait points will unlock the dual archtype function, until you have it, you'll feel a little on the back foot.
other trait cards are unlocked through various events you'll encounter.
builds won't really come together till mid game at least when you've accumulated enough rings, weapons, traits & mods to be able to scramble some semblance of synergy together.
this is where the majority of your player power will come from, so don't feel adverse to rerolling campaign, or jumping in an adventure mode to complete some events and get some resources.
